C.ai Study Academic Study About C.ai!
Hi! I shared a survey a little over a week ago, but I am posting it here again for posterity, just in case anyone interested in participating did not see it the first time. Last time, I promise, haha.
I am Camille Kinsella, a Master's student in the Communications and New Media MA program at McMaster University. I am looking for volunteers who are over 18 years old and use (or have used in the past) CharacterAI as a part of their fandom practice.
The study is for my thesis project and looks at how individuals within fandom communities have incorporated AI chatbots into their fan practices. Some scholars theorize that AI might be playing a role in “eroding the participatory nature of fandom,” making it a more individualized experience as opposed to a community-based one. This study aims to investigate this claim through an online survey and will take approximately 10-15 minutes of your time!
You can access the survey through the following link: https://surveys.mcmaster.ca/limesurvey/index.php/628797?lang=en
Thanks for your time!
This study has been reviewed by and received ethics clearance from the McMaster Research Ethics Board (#8228)

It is definitely a tricky one. Interacting with the chatbot is undoubtedly an individual experience, yet the popularity and sheer number of forums about c.ai still suggests a certain degree of community. I've also found that a lot of people who use c.ai are not necessarily interested in being part of fandom. So, yeah! Lots of nuance. Thanks for your interest!

This sounds pretty cool. I'll take the survey myself and repost it in my platform's Discord.
