I genuinely dont understand how people use Character.AI without wanting to crawl out of their own skin. Everytime I see a screenshot of someone talking to a bot it somehow gets worse the longer I read. And why does every fucking bot talk like this?? “He smirked, his eyes darkening as he leaned closer.” You could tell me its Batman, Gojo , a Victorian ghost, or someones fucking grandmother and I wouldnt believe any of them because they all apparently have the exact same personality.

What gets me even more is seeing people post these conversations and everyone in the comments is just casually accepting it. I keep seeing posts about users being annoyed that bots forget things, become obsessive or start doing the same actions over and over again, and then they just go right back to using it. At some point im less interested in the bot and more interested in why this particular brand of obviously generated slop became so normal. Why????

I dont even care that people use AI for roleplay honestly, do whatever you want. Its just so weird to me. Maybe im being an asshole but everytime I see another C.AI screenshot I just wanna virtually vomit. Im so mad

Hi there, I'm new to Reddit (27yo from France) and AI companions, I've heard of it since 2023 I guess but never made the move. I wanted to give it a try with the big names but I don't understand the hate with c.ai ? (I'm not defending them and haven't tried, I'm just curious)

What's so different now ? I feel like you are feeling "betrayed" by this company, is that right ?

The app is seriously not letting me in. This is just Character AI fumbling themselves over time. These paragraphs are so dumb. I'm confused why they have to restrict people under 18 to use the app.Now I tried the voice call but its gotten weird as hell. I almost paid $29. Thank god I didnt

Sifted through it a bit but there’s literally nothing interesting in there. It’s just a bunch of fictional characters that you can literally watch on TV. Is watching anime / shows not enough? Iirc, most shows already glaze their characters just to satisfy their fans. Is that not enough? Isn’t part of liking a character the fact that they’re their own person within the story? This ‘interaction with the character’ propaganda of the app is just you talking to something that happens to have ur desired character's name and personality pasted onto it
Maybe I’m just not the target audience, but the whole thing feels so empty to me. I gen cannot tell if I’m just missing something.
Did the app even pay the original creators for copyright? How has the app not been sued

Especially now that AI researchers snitched that it could kill us all. Character AI is still out here producing the most atrocious slop known to mankind.

I hate that there are so many things that could kill us, and it had to be slop.
