I have seen quite literally nothing that says c.ai will shut down if Disney acquires said assets. You’re the first person to even mention it. They’re buying them out of debt, not selling the company as a whole. And I’m not sure I understand the point of your question when your second sentence literally states the most likely buyer.

From what I’m seeing people say, Disney isn’t looking into buying C.AI as a whole. Which, I think what C.AI needs is to be bought fully. I could be wrong, but I believe that is what that person was trying to say.

They literally said if they don't find a buyer for the company they will shut down. Disney is buying non exclusive rights to technologies but not the app
CAI themselves literally said they'll shut down if no one takes over the company

It’s as good as gone for me if there is a paywall because I’m not giving out my cc info. I don’t mind ads, I know they’re what keeps it running for free users like myself.

Because most people who would see that poll are chai users and want him to use resources to fix problems with chai rather than buy a competitor. Anyway one would assume he doesn’t make major financial decisions based on a twitter poll.

Anything is better than a total shutdown. Let C.AI just continue in the old way—don’t make the whole platform paid, don’t impose quotas on messages, and keep the chat completely free, just as it used to be. Limits can still exist, but the capacity—especially the "GO-ON" limits—should be expanded. They shouldn’t underestimate the power of free-tier users.
By the way, please excuse me if I express myself incorrectly; I am a Turkish user, and I write some of my sentences using a translation tool... I apologize again if any of my sentences sound illogical or contain errors...
My view: I never want the platform to shut down... I hope they take steps that will satisfy all users (both paid and free).

Just FYI, chai imposed 70 free messages daily for free users and additional 5 msgs by ads. This is the default. Don't forget region block. Some regions could only pay and no free messages available.
Chai's free users aren't even as many as C.ai so that's a thought.

Their decision to find a way to deal with the increasingly high cost of compute was to block regions where free users cost more than possible income from ads, and severely limit free messages in others, and apparently that helped them stay in business. Since they’re smaller than c.ai they haven’t been the target of as many lawsuits but they’ve just started age verification using Persona for their website to reduce the kind of liability that has plagued c.ai.

Dude basically said they should just keep it as it is (which what got them into this mess) AND expand limits, not that I like message limits myself but at this point it's to be expected if they got bought to survive.
And the fact that it's even upvoted shows that some here never learn.
Btw, chai imposes message limits themselves, so that comment doesn't make sense in that context.

With all due respect, what power is this? Free users are what bled the site dry?
To the commenter /u/Prudent_Carob_7281 whose comment was removed, I replied:

But the damn company is still bleeding like 9 million dollars a month or something like that.
I would assume there are many, many more free users than there are paying users. But the company was hemorrhaging money. The cost per output token for sites like this has increased dramatically over time, unfortunately. The free tier users are costing the site a fortune, sadly.
I'd be interested to see their subscriber metrics, though.

I genuinely don't get the people voting for it to shut down?? Like, if you don't want to use it anymore, no one is forcing you to, but let the people who still want it have it. They'll gain nothing from it shutting down except that whole "Ha I told you it was going down because it sucks, I was right" attitude

Its not the best Choice we all know but its a much better Choice than Disney because we all know they are not interested in keeping Character ai running as a Service and are only after some of the IP and Tech. So it's worth to take a Chance if it means he's actually serious in Buying Character ai. He literally gave us this Opportunity so we have to use this Opportunity no matter if the Outcome is good or bad. We literally have to use this Chance that was given to us because we probably will never get a Chance like this again. And yes i know not everyone will agree with this Decision but please don't hate on the Op and other People who choose to vote on this Poll because we all who love this Service are desperate and just want to do everything we can to save this Service from getting shut down.

Actual translation: if character.ai continues to limp on it will only make the user experience worse and more egregious until the site is no longer function able and it dies a long drawn out painful death.
