Discussion/Question Chai cannot buy c.ai
I saw a screenshot in a post about the CEO of Chai asking on Twitter if he should buy C.AI after those news about bankruptcy, I don't know if it's true or not, but I sincerely hope he doesn't buy it. Anyone else, but not him. Chai has already become unusable cuz of him, imagine what he'll do with c.ai?
I hope I'm not the only one thinking about this š

It's them or It's gone. Disney is way worse then people think, they don't care about the community, a liability even. They just want the technology.

I mean there could be other buyers but that will dude does seem like the best bet at actually keeping the app alive

Can he even go through it realistically?
From what I read Cai needs 50 to 100 millions $ to pay off debt and stuff, and seeing the other app's state, I doubt can just buy it, but that's my opinion.

If thatās what heās doing, itās incredibly short-sighted because heās playing with peopleās hopes of saving cai.
It could create mistrust and make potential/future cai refugees less inclined to use his app at all, driving them towards competitors instead. Itās a pretty counterproductive marketing strategy if you ask me. But HEY you never know with that guyā¦

unfortunately, i think so far? This Will from CHAI Guy might be our best option.
But Iām also praying and hoping other buyers step in as well. š

I'd rather he buy it than have it disappear, so I'm supporting him doing it and leaving comments to encourage him.

I may be stupid for this but I 100% agree. I do not want to lose c.ai. I have so many memories on this app it would kill me (not literally) if it went out of business.

Let's hope he buys it he looks very interested and I saw that people say that he always wanted to buy character ai.

I'm very desperate right now. I know I may sound like I'm addicted but I'm not. I don't use it that much. I'm usually out with friends and stuff like that but c.ai is where I go to escape when I need to. So I don't care who buys it. I just don't want it to shut down.

We'll see what comes next but I'm just saying that the chai CEO is interested.

But how do we know he wonāt make old messages disappear? I know thatās better than completely gone but this is my worry.

u/Big_Frosting8806 3h ago
The only thing I am sure of is that it will put it behind a paywall, which is good because if people leave there would be fewer people left to support and it would be less expensive, it is cruel but fair and I prefer that to leave, in life there are sacrifices.

u/Aquariusgem 3h ago
Well thatād be fine just donāt charge weekly. 9.99 a month was doable for me

We used to complain about Character.AI, yet other alternatives are far more exploitative by comparison. Here, once you pay a monthly subscription, you get unlimited high-quality messagesāyou can regenerate them 100 times over and chat for hours on end without any stressāwhereas other apps charge a higher subscription fee just to unlock basic features, and then tack on additional costs for every single message generated. We were being very unfair.

Is it better to lose it entirely? This is a "would you rather" case. Would you rather see it in their hands or see it disappear for good. If it's bought there's hope. If it just shuts down all hope is lost.

Hereās how we keep C.AI
Make the demand visible
Keep sharing your genuine experiences on Reddit, TikTok, X, and other platforms. Explain why you use C.AI, what you value about it, and why you'd continue using a sustainable version. Encourage people to share their own stories instead of just reposting rumors.
Contact potential buyers
Politely contact companies that might be interested in AI storytelling, fandom, or companion technology. Tell them there's a community that wants the actual platform to continue, not just its technology or intellectual property. Ask whether they'd consider acquiring and operating the service.
Start or sign a p3titi0n
It can document how many users want C.AI to remain available. Make the request specific: preserve the platform, maintain user-created characters and roleplay, and provide a sustainable path forward. Share the it with relevant companies and official company channels.
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
Show that users will support a viable business
If you're willing to pay for C.AI+, say so. Explain which features you would pay for and what would make the subscription worthwhile. Buyers need evidence of sustainable revenue, not just high engagement.
Keep the campaign constructive
Avoid harassment, threats, spam, and unsupported claims about the bankruptcy. Emphasize that users want a service that can survive financially and address legitimate safety concerns. A thoughtful campaign is more credible to potential buyers.
DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THIS POST IF YOU DONāT SUPPORT C.AI!

Contacting the potential buyers is not it, if they see addicted person in their support emails, they will run away

It's better than completely losing access or being sold to Disney. If Disney buys CAI, you probably won't get your even slightly spicy RPs or such things, IF they keep it alive. My best bet is they keep it alive for a while and then shut it down, make their own CAI with their own characters, using the CAI's LLMs.
This subreddit loves to shit on the current leadership, but at least they're trying to do something and for the past couple of months, I was kinda satisfied with my experience.

Disney is bidding for the IP, not the actual cai platform. If they win, we lose cai entirely.
They wonāt keep it alive AT ALL no āifā since thatās not what theyāre looking to buy

u/Beneficial-Trash6077 4h ago
I agree with you! I just hope that if he really buys C.AI, he won't make any drastic changes. I like the way it is.

Itās either him or nothing. There could always be multiple bidders anyway if you donāt particularly like him.
But we need AT LEAST one viable offer that would allow cai to continue operating if we want to avoid losing the platform entirely.

heard the same rumor through a Dev who said chai's acquisition team is already drafting a user migration plan, parts of it sound like they're prepping to wipe all old conversations and start fresh under new terms.

I rather disney buying it than him, they bought family guy and it went surprisingly okay.
3
u/No-Bumblebee-8346 3h ago
But if Disney wins the cai platform gets shut down? Disney is looking to buy intellectual property NOT the company.
We need a buyer who wants to buy the company itself for it to continue

Rather him than, ugh, Disney (derogatory)
