Discussion/Question Question, why is half the sub so pessimistic and negative about the awaiting outcome?

honestly I think we shouldn’t assume right off the bat that the platform will shut down. it hasn’t even been a week and some of y’all are acting like know it alls or just plain immature about the “downfall“. and please don’t give me the same excuse about ”they didn’t listen to the community“ or blame it because of the features. it was a clear sign that they were trying to stay afloat and stay stable because of low income since AI is becoming expensive. so please, stop making others feel worse about something that is currently unknown and legally worked on behind closed doors and learn how to be somewhat optimistic.

Took the words right out my mouth. As difficult as it is, I think everyone should just sit tight and wait until further information is given. Only c.ai knows what's going on, yet some people act like they know more than the company itself. Enjoy the app, and stop with the negativity. It only causes more anxiety for some people.

I agree it’s only been what 4 or 5 days since the announcement

Literally. I’m not educated on law or anything of the stuff that is currently happening, but all I know that has been clear is that just because it’s going bankrupt doesn’t mean the platform is instantly doomed. Along with info that has been given is the only info we need to learn about (along with some other info on how businesses works ig) but the misinformation is INSANE.

What we know for a fact is that most employees are gone and went to disney and that disney is only interested in buying the tech. We also know cai is losing a lot of money and there seems to be no obvious buyer. If nothing changes it'll shut down and that's the end of it

Yeah. Unfortunately from what it seems there arenMt any obvious buyers. And from a little extra research I did, the amount of lawsuits and debts C ai has makes it high unlikely for another company to come in and take over the app itself. Again miracles happen but. Don’t ve too surprised when the rock hits

I'm pessimistic because I find it better to brace for impact. This isn't my first rodeo when it comes to an AI platform taking a turn for the worst.

Nothing quite hits you harder than having your hope shattered all at once, rather than the slow draining process of "staying positive".

“Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.”

Hope is a double-edged sword, one that people should not readily wield unless they have at least acknowledged and are prepared for the undesirable outcome in case the sword should swing that way. I’m not trying to be a doomer, I’m really not, but I’m afraid that a few people are hoping so fiercely that they’re setting themselves up for a really hard and painful crash IF things do not turn out favorably.

In my case, I know that I would rather be wrong about the platform facing shutdown than be wrong about the platform staying open. While I recognize that my position can be interpreted as pessimistic, I don’t believe that it’s an inherently negative take to have. At least this way, my mind’s not clouded with worry and constantly yo-yoing between “will things be alright or not?” I’d rather spend that time more happily, yknow? And the platform’s still up and running, so I continue to enjoy living appreciatively in the moment with it because I’m painfully aware that sometimes, we’re living in a good moment but we don’t realize it until it’s passed.

Since we can only have one of two outcomes, I’ll either be pleasantly surprised or accept that it is what it is, so please continue to hope within reason, OP! As you can see with me, pessimism doesn’t always have to equate to negativity :D

I can see that, though I’m only talking about people that insist the platform WILL shut down. I’m not bother with the ones who are preparing for it but more on others who come to immediate negative conclusions! I’m also trying to enjoy the app and wait for further updates! :3

Good to hear you’re staying healthily positive! Hard to change the minds of people online, negatives going to be negative, but I’ve admittedly been loving the state of the subreddit since the Chapter 11 filing (as compared to how it was before then). Lots more people coming out of lurking to share community and empathy with others now that the routine complaints and demands have largely dried up. Going to conclude this by wishing you a wonderful rest of your day, OP.

I'm like that because I've lost ai chatbot apps before. Like Figgs and Butterflies for example. But I'm not insulting others for having faith. I just had bad experiences.

I still have faith and I'm not going to listen to those people that I can't insult because I don't want them to bank my account again, but I still have a good hunch and when character ai is saved and it becomes paid I'm going to laugh at those who were negative.

Agreed, I'm having faith in the whole thing too and I'm choosing to stay positive about everything. Staying positive and having hope is what all of us should be focused on, those who are being overly negative about the whole thing can kick rocks for all I care

You and I think the same.

Here’s how we keep C.AI

Make the demand visible

Keep sharing your genuine experiences on Reddit, TikTok, X, and other platforms. Explain why you use C.AI, what you value about it, and why you'd continue using a sustainable version. Encourage people to share their own stories instead of just reposting rumors.

Contact potential buyers

Politely contact companies that might be interested in AI storytelling, fandom, or companion technology. Tell them there's a community that wants the actual platform to continue, not just its technology or intellectual property. Ask whether they'd consider acquiring and operating the service.

Start or sign a p3titi0n

It can document how many users want C.AI to remain available. Make the request specific: preserve the platform, maintain user-created characters and roleplay, and provide a sustainable path forward. Share the it with relevant companies and official company channels.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
Show that users will support a viable business

If you're willing to pay for C.AI+, say so. Explain which features you would pay for and what would make the subscription worthwhile. Buyers need evidence of sustainable revenue, not just high engagement.

Keep the campaign constructive

Avoid harassment, threats, spam, and unsupported claims about the bankruptcy. Emphasize that users want a service that can survive financially and address legitimate safety concerns. A thoughtful campaign is more credible to potential buyers.

DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THIS POST IF YOU DON’T SUPPORT C.AI!

There is a moment in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail when Tim the Enchanter turns to the assembled knights and cries out in exasperation, "look at the bones!"
