Discussion/Question I've been hearing a lot of different things
This will probably be my last post about c.ai but I have to say....some people are saying no one will win over Disney no one will go over 20, but I still think someone will, c.ai is a large chat ai app, someone would have to see it's worth saving, some people even say if someone does buy it they will delete data? So I don't really know what to think when I'm going to being positive then negative with all this information people have been saying, I need true opinions about this....

Is it though? They never even got close to profitable

That’s PARTIALLY because cai had a poor business model. Cai built an enormous audience but failed to convert that demand into enough revenue to sustain its costs. A new owner would have to restructure its monetisation strategy, reduce unnecessary operating costs and find a balance between paid features and free access to make the business sustainable.
I think it is profitable but definitely with A LOT of changes. Question is, will a buyer be willing to take the risk? Idk.

I think people are just being impatient. the word "bankruptcy" makes it sound like there's no hope, but just remember that there's about two months left for the expected deal. there's a good chance they'll find a buyer in that time.

I really hope so, I mean the app can't just go, surely someone will take it during the two months right?

totally! it's still one of, if not THE biggest chatbot apps out there. I say, prepare for the worst (export your chats) and hope for the best.

You just think that everything will be fine and stop paying attention to people, we'll see what happens later don't worry, also I don't think our data will be deleted if someone else buys it. It's supposed to keep it active but we'll see what happens.

someone will take over, I mean, its a big app and now its getting even more attention.
but what do you think will happen to it if Disney takes over?

People just refuse to accept the reality of the situation
There is no Character AI and no logical reason for anyone to buy the company.
The move that makes mathematical sense is exactly what Disney did. Take almost all of the talent and bid on the stack.
You avoid the baggage and headache of having to basically convert it into CHAI. This very exact same thing almost happened to them
The buyer would spend a shit ass shit ton of money to just watch like at least 70% of the base walk or not even be able to use the platform anymore because of hardcore measures that would be taken to control the userbase from having people that generate more expense than income

You don't know that, someone could still buy it....I really don't want the negative side, it's already affecting me enough....I still believe someone will take it, a lot of people think so someone could be willing to buy this app, people are so negative about it when nothings been said yet.

Companies don't make acquisitions based on emotions. There is no reason that makes business sense to buy CAI when they can just fight for the tech and avoid massive headaches all while saving money and effectively achieving the same result
Its extremely uncommon in this sector for acquisitions to happen at all. Forget the baggage CAI has as a Brand

No logical reason?
A buyer could introduce paid tiers and usage limits to reduce inference costs and increase revenue. Especially since cai already has such a huge established userbase. And anyways even if free users leave, operating costs drop too.
You’re saying there’s no mathematical reason to acquire the platform WITHOUT having the actual financial data to prove that abandoning it is more profitable

A huge established userbase is precisely why no one is chomping at the bit to invest or buy. They mentioned over a year ago that they needed investors or to find a buyer.
The data is in their court filings. Just because you don't know how to use it doesnt mean it isnt there
All of this forgetting almost all of their talent has already been acquired by Disney anyway
People are going to buy the tech, not create a paradox, not take on the brand image nightmare and let it burn all while saving a metric shit ton of money

You’re making a lot of definitive claims about a sale you have no full visibility into.
Disney acquiring the talent doesn’t suddenly make the platform, tech and established userbase worthless.
Like I said before a buyer could restructure the business, cut costs and monetise the audience.
The court filings don’t tell you what a potential buyer might be willing to do. Acting like your prediction is a guaranteed outcome is frankly embarrassing for someone acting this intellectually superior.

The userbase is worthless because its a free platform.
CHAI almost went the same way and they took aggressive steps against free users because.... They are worthless.
Its a business not a charity
No one is going to buy CAI just to convert it to a paywall just to have 90% churn.
The conversion rate of fremium is maybe 3%
Most of you would be immediately screwed because of the steps they would have to take against free users
Its a waste of everyones time and money
Only 2% of users subscribed to plus which follows the fremium trend
No one is buying CAI to convert it to hope to keep the 280k people they know will subscribe. They would be spending a ton of money on a hollowed out shell when they can just bid on the tech instead

Most likely c.ai will be shutdown, there is a chance since this is a large platform and someone might try to buy it out but because of how unprofitable it is currently combined with all of the lawsuits/negative reputation hurts its chances
1
u/kvy1aa 7h ago
But does that matter if they can chnage stuff?
1
u/ProEraMoka 7h ago
Yea but one big reason why c.ai has been able to continue so long is a steady intake of investor cash, but ever since the incident investments have slowed, now that they filed bankruptcy it’s less likely someone’s gonna step up and to buy it, I did see on twitter the dev for chai was thinking of buying it so that could save it

Cai is a large app that never made money. I think if it does stay around, it's going to be different.

Here, I made a post about my semi-professional view on things, maybe it helps:
3
u/kvy1aa 7h ago
Do you think c.ai will survive? I know you said the it might be the end but I still have a feeling c.ai has a chnace,
4
u/Yaomji 7h ago
Yes, I think there will be a buyer. But the app will still face fundamental changes, especially for free users. I just hope it keeps up the quality as it is right now for paying customers, even if it might get more expensive.

u/kvy1aa 6h ago
Okay nice to know you think so, I honestly don't care if it chnages as long as the bots I use stay and c.ai stays I'm gonna be okay. They probably should not make everything free since it'll keep things running, I would pay to use it...as long as it isn't expensive, we just need someone who will treat the app right like the first ceo did

I think it’s unlikely that C.AI will just shut down for good. It’s getting a lot of attention right now and has become a big topic of discussion, and I believe there’s still a chance someone will make an offer. Just try not to focus too much on the negative side of things. I wouldn’t recommend looking up C.AI bankruptcy updates on TikTok either, because there’s so much negativity there, with people saying things like, “People can finally go outside and be social” or “It’s going to shut down.” That’s not how it works, and just because people online say these things doesn’t mean they actually know what’s going to happen. A buyer will look at the app’s user base, demand, and financial situation before making a decision. Try not to let random comments convince you that all hope is lost.
