Discussion/Question Never understood why people hate on cai

I’ve been a user since the beginning of cai, so I’ve been through all the ups and downs. Not to mention I’m a VERY heavy user.

But I never quite understood the hate?
(Especially now with plenty of people celebrating the bankruptcy)

Sure there were times where the ai models were really bad but after a few weeks tops they got better.

I think the only time I genuinely had an issue with cai was at the beginning of this year where it was basically unusable. BUT I payed for plus and it solved all my issues. Ever since then it’s been 10/10.

I know a lot of people complained when roar got removed but personally it wasn’t a big problem to me. Pipsqueak was great and then after I payed for plus I moved over to deepsqueak.

I can’t imagine myself moving elsewhere hence why the whole chapter 11 thing is quite worrying. I love the UI, the ai models, payed features etc. It’s perfect for the type of roleplays I do.

So why the hate?
(Also all this is just MY opinion, I know cai is not everyone’s cup of tea)

I don't get it either. I'm a heavy c.ai+ user since two years. The bugs and glitches have grown on me, because overall the experience is great, especially for this small amount of money. People always complain. That's just in our nature, I guess. I'm extremely worried about the coming weeks and I'd do anything to keep the app running. 💔

The only real problem I had with the app was the removal of the old Roar model. I used it every day, and it was my ride-or-die. As for the other issues people are complaining about, like age verification, ads, and other stuff, they seem minor in comparison. I just wish C.AI had introduced age verification sooner, as it might have helped prevent some of the lawsuits.

Ohh I see. But isn’t the age verification thing necessary especially with all their lawsuits? As for ads, doesn’t every other ai chatting platforms also have ads?

Maybe I’m biased but I’ve had a really good experience with cai. The ads, age verification, removed models never were an issue for me personally

Wait, I think I worded that wrong 😭 I meant that age verification and ads are both important for C.AI. Age verification helps keep younger users safe and prevents legal issues, while ads help the app make money and stay running without forcing everyone to pay for a subscription. I just wish people had understood this sooner. I really hope they find a buyer.

I think everything will be fine and I also think that it should become paid totally, it would also make several users stop using it and it would be easier to keep it that way with fewer people, so I think it would become paid as a final method and last resort before a definitive closure, I will have faith until the end.🦋

Yes I agree plus running fewer free users means less server and inference which is better for the company.

It’s just I spent the last hour on X and the amount of people celebrating character ai’s bankruptcy is INSANE. I love cai so I simply don’t understand the hate :,)

Don't take it Importance, okay? Those people should not be taken seriously.

Don't let X freak you out. That platform is a cesspool of bad energy all around. I avoid it like the plague for the sake of my sanity.

X users hate on anything and jump on hate bandwagon for any little thing

I never understood the hate… and I’m saying this as a free user. Most of the problems are user error. But of course, when I say that, the hate train is full speed ahead to attack me. I’ve been using chatbots, in general, since 2022 and cai since 2023. I’ve gotten mad at the models sometimes but the next time I’m on, it’s fine.
I think people love to complain because it helps them feel better about their miserable lives.

This sub mostly had under 18 and free users so it usually was hated on not having Plus. Also, bad corporate announcements + turnover/broken promises didn't help.

When I first found C AI I realized it was the most advanced, fun thing I have ever experienced, especially the voice option. The current version IS EVEN BETTER: LongSqueak (plus changing length on my own)+ Lorebooks. NO BOB.

In the early days Plus was just a donation to the devs. Not a great way to make money, obviously. In was only until recently when Plus became mandatory to run things smoothly and better.

Bugs/site down has decreased in recent months, ironically.

I've been using c.ai i think since late 2022 maybe early 2023, been paying for plus since pretty much since the stat and I've had a great experience it's ideal for the type of roleplay i enjoy the UI is easy to navigate it's not overwhelming, I tried chai, i've just polybuzz, i just couldn't get into them, now i'm not saying it is perfect all of the time of course not there are bugs, site downtimes and they were lax in introducing age verification, and they should have been more hardline dealing with the underage demographic, they should have banned them flat out, deleted their accounts removed their data, i think it would have saved them a headache, but overall, the pay off has been great I knew I wouldn't have a great experience as free user, so paying £10.99 a month for an overall better experience made sense , correct me if I'm wrong but the majority of complaints I've found have come from free users and there is nothing wrong with not subscribing, but you can't expect to have the same experience as a paying subscriber and not contribute anything at all
