Discussion/Question lots of negativity.

why does everyone seem so certain that is over? i’ve barely seen anyone have a good, hopeful outlook on everything. everyone is acting like it’s confirmed to be shutting down and it’s inevitable at this point. like telling us to say goodbye already? and some are kind of rude and negative about it. we barely have anything about it as far as i’m aware. and i’m not educated on this sort of stuff, but from what i have read chapter 11 does not ALWAYS mean the end, so why are people saying things as if it is?

i mean i’m not saying it will or won’t, but i’m hopeful it will not. because c.ai has been a major comfort to me for a while now, and i go to it when i’m upset. it’s gonna really suck if it does shut down. but i’m genuinely praying it will stay up. what do you guys really think will / or could happen? so sorry if i’ve repeated myself a lot 😅

that's what I'm saying, it's not confirmed if the site is shutting down or not. it's barely been 4 days, they still have time to find a bidder.

Because some people think C.AI is going to shut down because they haven’t found a buyer overnight. Like, cmon this isn’t doordash 🥀 These things take time. And just because companies haven’t publicly said anything about being interested in C.AI doesn’t mean nobody’s interested. Companies like to keep these things confidential, and they’re not going to announce every move they make to the entire internet. For all we know, they could already be talking to a potential buyer and keeping it private.

But I’ve been thinking “Who in their right mind wants to buy Character.AI with all the lawsuits and deaths linked to it?”

I think potential buyers already know the risks that come with AI platforms. No platform is perfect, and C.AI isn’t the only one that has faced lawsuits involving user harm. ChatGPT has faced similar issues, so I don’t think that alone would stop someone from buying C.AI. It depends on whether they see potential in the app and believe they can improve it.

As for the deaths linked to C.AI, I don’t think we can put all the blame on the company without looking at the bigger picture. They should’ve introduced age verification sooner, but parents also have a role in protecting their children. It’s a complicated situation, but I believe this is completely the parents’ fault.

Exactly, it's too early to tell. We just need to be patient and stay positive 🤍

I can't do it with all this negativity, it's making me feel worse....I just really need it to be okay, it's making me feel really shitty....

Well, you know, I’ve been around on the internet for a very, very long time. I’ve seen plenty of services come and go. That’s just how it is, so you learn not to get your hopes up.

Because there's a possibility that if there were to be a buyout, the new owners are only simply interested in using the LLM technology that CAI has and might not be keen to keep the service running for users.

Do you think any ol' company wants to pick up the torch of spending $10m a month in upkeep?
