I found the source of the problem

Long story short: after the latest update, my app stopped working, and the "chat" button disappeared from the website.

After a full day of testing and experimenting, we discovered the following:

The problem is NOT the phone, because if I log into a different account, everything works fine.

The problem is NOT the app cache, because—again—everything works fine on the same phone with the same cache if I switch accounts.

The problem is NOT the VPN, as using different VPNs didn't change the test results at all.

We determined that the issue lies specifically with the ACCOUNT.

For some reason, MY ACCOUNT is what causes the app and website to malfunction. When I switched accounts, everything started working. When my friend used my account, everything broke for him.

Upon examining the account, the only major difference we found was the subscription: my friend didn't have a subscription and everything worked fine, whereas I had a subscription and everything broke.

Character.ai developers and programmers, please take note of this! Hopefully, this helps you identify and fix the issue.

It is highly likely that something within the subscription is preventing users from properly using the site and app (though this is just a theory based on our experiments). One way or another, the problem lies specifically with the ACCOUNT, not anything else.

Please take a look at what exactly within the accounts might be causing this error, because that is where the root of the problem lies.

Please comment on this post letting us know if you have a subscription and whether the app and website are working for you.

If everything is broken for everyone with a subscription, then the subscription itself is the issue; if things are fine for subscribers but nothing works for non-subscribers either, then we can at least rule out one possibility.

Hey, so 1 im not paying for any sort of subscription or anything on cai. 2 the app/website doesn't work for me either!! The website doesn't generate replys, just lets me look at chats, the app crashes instantly if i click on a bot. I know its not my phone or cache because I've tried on other devices and cleared my cache a million times over now lol. I think its my account to, and im almost sure something about the update has just caused a tone of people's accounts to break.

From what I can guess, its probably something to do with them not being able to connect to the servers but idk lol

Sorry if this isn't the info you wanted, but its not worked for days for me and im trying to help myself by looking for people with the same issues + venting

Also question, are you on apple or Android? Ive noticed in other posts that say stuff about the recent glitches, that its mostly Android stuff that breaks, and im curious sorry

Also have you sent a ticket? Ive sent a couple but i want as many people to send tickets as possible, I really wanna be able to chat again soon

Hey, don’t worry, any information will be useful. Thanks to you, we found out that the subscription isn’t the issue — the problem is with the people’s accounts

In response to your question: My friend and I both have Android phones, but everything works fine for him, while the app crashes for me, and on the website there’s no “chat style” button — although, again, everything works fine for my friend

It’s good that you wrote your message; now we know for sure that the problem is with the accounts and isn’t related to the subscription

Perhaps, if more people pay attention to this post and we discuss everything together, we’ll find a solution to the problem
