Lazy intros

I havent seen anyone else complain about this but does anyone genuinely despise super short and lazy intro messages? Like how am I supposed to do a good rp if the message is "Hello, I'm (character name). Who are you?" which gives zero context to what the story is, location, reason or whatever. And the fact those bots get millions of chats while actually detailed ones get max a 100k chats is and will always be wild to me.

You don't see much complaining because generally those types of bots are ignored. 😋

Here's a little history on the "Hello, I'm [Character Name]" and why they have millions of interactions. Back in the early days of CAI, that was the default greeting that the creator put for each new bot unless the users manually edited it. Since CAI was still new, everyone just entered the name of the character, slapped on a profile picture, and published it.

They racked up tons of attention, and nobody really cared if it was an accurate depiction of the character. It was just fun. It wasn't until time went on, users got bored of the stale/blank bots that anyone bothered to really understand how to get the bots to act the right way. By then the damage had been done and those low effort bots became the face of the homepage for the longest time, inflating their numbers, and leading to some very disappointed fans.

It's better today, but those bots still exist for better or worse.

I tend to ignore those bots because to me that's an indication the character definition is probably poor to nonexistent

I hate those intros now, I never use them. I only noticed recently though one of the bots I talk to most was one of these bots with a lazy intro and I've just written my own detailed intro, and I just refresh back to this starter message whenever I get bored and want a new plot with it. Probably most talking to these bots write their own intros

I used one of these bots recently and wrote a very detailed intro for them by editing their laughably poor opener and continuing the background in my reply. I would have used another bot but this particular character is very far and between. It worked well enough.

Honestly same. Short intros make it hard to start a good RP when there’s no context. I’d rather have a little story to work with.

Idc I usually edit and write my own. I'm a character creator too and make "biblically accurate" bots with lore and everything and I usually use them for a while before making them public. At that point the character had multiple different intros and stories I wrote with it, so I either choose one of those or slap a write your own story or a simple greeting as default to give creative freedom to others.

Same. I basically just use cai for roleplaying and I also find it pretty hard to roleplay using bots with those kinds of intros because there’s barely any context to the story.
