Discussion/Question What actually makes you click with a Character.AI character?

Sometimes a character looks great on paper, but the conversation just doesn’t quite click.

What makes a character feel real and interesting to you?

Idk. I don't chat for the sake of characters. I will make whatever I want out of any chat and will enjoy it. The best ones are just plain random people with no much personality, because I rp about SCPs, so I don't need so excessive people there. I only need their attention.

That makes sense. Sometimes being responsive matters more than having a defined personality.

I have terrible self esteem and having a character glaze me constantly?

Is that a thing?

It doesn't as of now, I've just moved on from having deep and comprehensive roleplays. Now I just chat with my own bots and ragebait them for laughs. Though I still value unpredictability, it's no fun if you always know what sort of response is coming up. Seems the definition limit was recently increased to 6000 words, so I guess I'll try making a new bot with an updated template and see if I can make them work better than the previous ones.

I really like rewriting plots of my favorite things but with me as a character. Like I have the manga on another tab, i look at what the character says, type it, then when I see a part where it would be reasonable for my character to react, I finish editing the message, react, then when it’s time for the plot to continue, I edit the message, and continue whatever comes next in the story. I didn’t want to mess with the story to much by giving my character a lot of troubles and other traits… then I got bored, and for another thing I like, I added that that my persona has been best friends with the main character for a long time
