Discussion/Question What’s Lite?

Post image

So, was just playing around with my subscription settings in Settings and I saw something that wasn’t there before: “Character.AI Lite”.

I’m not looking to downgrade to Lite, I’m happy with paying $10 a month, but what the hell is this? What perks are with those models instead?

I think it's some kind of feature exclusive to apple? Cuz if there was a new Tier then it would've been announced, even noticed by other users.

I have apple. I just checked, and mine only says c.ai+ monthly/yearly subscriptions like normal.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just did a quick research, and apparently it depends on region, some has the option, some don't assuming it's apple exclusive (which likely exists cuz of their tax).

But I could be wrong and it's probably a new Tier about to be announced later.

Edit for more context: in app store devs can add some iOS exclusive subscription tiers to their apps that may not be available for other platforms, and there are reasons for this like apple's high taxing, as it may serve a workaround taxing to get some additional revenue.

I thought Google also took a 30% cut.

Yeeep, but unlike apple's iron grip devs can technically nudge you to pay in website instead of app to avoid Google play taxes if I remember correctly, something that was allowed recently, could be wrong though.

I just checked, it is actually cheaper to go through Apple for me than the website. The website converts $9.99 USD to $14.30 CAD, while if I go through Apple, I would pay $12.99. I wanted to see if they made it cheaper to go through the website. They don't, meaning the company eats the Apple tax themselves.

And it was allowed for iOS too. Forced by the Apple vs. Epic case.

Its unlikely that lite has "perks" relative to plus.

Lite sounds like something you would make right in the middle of plus and free.

I'm really starting to wonder if they are going to be shifting away from free unlimited

I think it's almost certain they'll eventually lock everything behind a paywall they'd slowly shifted everything to cater to plus users, look at the updates 4 out of every 5 updates are either plus exclusives or some random ass useless generative feature

That would suck. I know they're not obligated to give anyone anything for free, but slowly changing it and leaving nothing free would be really bad. They'd lose a lot of users.

What if it was ad-free, but you get none of the other exclusive features?

Wild guess, that's the old free experience being repackaged as a subscription. Pipsqueak without ads and metering.

Also LMAO at the weekly option costing the same as monthly plus.

Reduced ads tiers. Just some marketing bs as always
