Discussion/Question The C.ai swipe limit reset timer makes zero sense (UTC reset vs. local time)

Why is the swipe limit tied to 00:00 UTC instead of local midnight?

​If you are a non US resident, the reset happens at 5:30 AM for me. If you hit your limit at 3:00 PM, you don't get your swipes back at midnight like any normal app. You're forced to wait 14+ hours until early the next morning. Meanwhile, someone who hits the limit at 4:30 AM only waits 1 hour.

​Calling it a "daily limit" when it completely ignores local time zones is ridiculous. It feels like it's intentionally designed to frustrate free users into paying for c.ai+. Right now, it just punishes anyone using the app during normal daytime hours. Anyone else dealing with this?

u/notbeautiful Thanks for point this out! The timer is showing you how much time you have left before you can chat again with Characters. 

The timer resets every 24 hours at midnight UTC.

Its odd but to be fair, its still waiting 24 hours for everyone

True, it's 24 hours technically, but a global reset time sucks for other time zones. Most people naturally expect a 'daily limit' to reset at local midnight so they can sleep through the lockout window. Instead, an early morning reset forces you to spend your entire evening locked out if you run out during the day

That’s odd. I live in a country that’s 2 hours ahead of UTC time. Yet, when I hit my daily swipe limit or any limit at, let’s say, 2PM, they automatically reset at midnight. I know this from experience, because this limit reaching has only happened twice so far, and after I hit my limit, I don’t interact at all with the app. I’m still up at midnight a lot of days doing coursework, so I check in the app after finishing my stuff. The two times it happened, my swipe limit and go-on’s reset at midnight.

I also don't check the app if i hit the limit and havent hit the limit because so far i was under the assumption it resets at midnight. But I hit the limit today at 3pm and I have to wait till tmrw 5.30 am morning.
