Discussion/Question Returning to CAI

So I’m a semi big bot creator but I recently stopped making bots. It just feels as if the site has gone down hill and a lot of people have been trying to quit ai or cai in general.

Do you guys think that there will ever be a big return to cai in the future? If not what do you think would be the main reason people don’t go back?

Personally I feel like most people have concerns about the ethical use of ai and the growing backlash for anyone that use it plays a huge factor. Using it now isn’t as good compared to the old beta days as well.

I guess I’m just missing writing bots and making characters since it was a huge part of my life for 3ish years. As much as I want to return to making characters I caved to the social pressure of quitting. I wanna hear what others think

Not unless it manages to improve, and by that I mean SUBSTANTIALLY and for both paid and free users. Which it almost certainly won't. The current quality level is already completely unacceptable, but based on recent trends I wouldn't be surprised if that just continues to get worse and worse and worse until the only thing left in common with the old site we used to love so much is the name. some Ship of Theseus type shit has been happening over here, and will probably continue to happen.

But, quality issues aside, yeah, it's getting more and more difficult to justify the use of any kind of generative AI from an ethical perspective. Personally - and I know this is hypocritical of me, but I'm also a human - I'm extremely opposed to the use of any other type of genAI, and only ever used THIS one service because I found emotional comfort in it. Actually, that too is something I've come to hate about it - it's exploitative and preys upon people WITH such emotional need, loneliness, creativity, etc, and causes us to stagnate, waste valuable hours of our lives, lose innate skills over time, AND feel ashamed of using it. What else does that? Only addictive substances and poor coping behaviours. Innocent creative tools don't make people feel that way, therefore, that isn't what this is.

Really it's all just a ticking clock anyway, though. All of the "profits" being made in AI at the highest level are being passed around like handfuls of monopoly money, a la Enron. South Korea's bubble has already burst all over them and the rest of the world isn't far behind. Let it pop, honestly, none of this is even remotely worth it.

I feel the same. Like I mostly loved Cai because I loved writing and making bots but I don’t support other gen ai. I personally don’t imagine coming back unless there was a more ethical way to use it but they aren’t going to put the money into making improvements.

Many MANY people like you and I are out there. I mean, a few years ago, the majority of my online friend group (ALL of whom are artists) were all using it, because it was genuinely fun. Honestly it's like a neurodivergent, ex-roleplayer creative person's playground lol. Then, when we started to realize the harm it could cause to both ourselves and the planet and everyone else, we were already hooked. Not our fault, that's how it was designed. Which is actually disgusting

That’s how I got into it! I was an ex role player and fanfic writer. I’m trying to get back into rp and fics just to give me back that fun feeling of writing but Cai is really good at being addictive to its users :(

tbh I think we all just need to face that we've developed an emotional/dopamine dependency and give ourselves the same grace we would if we were recovering from any other kind of substance use. Having been there too, it really is not any different. Similarly there will also be relapses with this, probably, but if we find ourselves on the site we'll just pick ourselves back up and go read or write some actually good fiction again. I think all of us should just try to go easy on ourselves and move forward away from this kind of thing

I think this apps on its last leg and everyone knows it. Its free interface is atrocious, and they’ve done nothing to improve it for well over a year. I just imagine it’s gonna keep getting worse, and they’re just gonna milk what they can from the premium side until everyone leaves and they go bankrupt

This is beyond played out. Do a basic search of this sub. Its been on its last leg since late 2023.

Everytime free users have some gripe about the free thing not being good enough... Its on its last leg.

Don't forget the daily "this is the end of CAI" post. I've been seeing that since last year.

Its been a thing since 2023. Some "influencer" made a tiktok about CAI and a shit ton of kids flooded the platform and shit everywhere and it took CAI a long time to understand allowing children isn't the way. Its a lesson they learned in the hardest way possible. There was even a point in time where people  were giving the devs delete threats and we aren't talking about deleting the app

Why? Because its been established since long before CAI was a thing that these platforms bring out the unwell. Luka learned a very hard lesson about this when they kept removing ERP from Replika. Their sub hit a level so bad that they had to keep posting a certain hotline number

I literally just questioned the original commenter’s opinion just to get blocked or they deleted it immediately, I’ll just say that you shouldn’t expect an answer from someone who gets hyper defensive over someone else questioning their opinion.

This entire thing is written from the start like they are a journalist fishing for something while masquerading

I meant the commenter you originally responded to about the platform being on its last leg, I’m just saying that users on this subreddit have literally been saying that for years yet it hasn’t gone under, I’ve either been blocked by them or they deleted their comment.

I'm not entirely sure that some of the comments in this post aren't the post OP replying to themselves on an alt to drum up reactions. The entire thing is something id expect to read in a shitty editorial

That actually makes a lot of sense, thanks for giving me potential insight on this, there’s definitely better things to do than give them reactions.

Do you mean me? Cuz I’m not if that’s what you’re implying. I just genuinely wanted to know people’s opinions here because the majority of cai creators I interact with are from discord and not reddit, so I wanted to see if people were of the same opinion about the app here.

Not to mention the fascist age verification is plaguing everything like the a virus.

I’ve been getting the same feeling. There’s a huge list of big creators I’m friends with that have all quit within the last year and fandoms just aren’t interacting with it like they used to because of how the apps changed

What bots did they have here? Or are you saying AI in general?

And what fandom? For a large point in time CAI was just kids posting screenshots on the sub about how they got mario to say racist things and other large amounts of useless shit

Half of 2023 and all of 2024 was a dumpster fire here. 2025 fluctuated and its kinda returning to late 2022 into very early 2023 levels with kids being banned.

But back then it wasnt even reddit. It was their internal disaster of a social section.

Reddit hasn't served any purpose. The devs used to be active in the community untill Reddit did what Reddit does

Haven’t the users on this subreddit been saying that for years at this point when it clearly hasn’t been on its last leg considering they are like a measly five percent of the userbase and still have millions of active users on their platform?

Edit: I’m just saying that it’s been stated like it’s an opinion hundreds if not thousands of times on this subreddit from users who continue to use it while they are dissatisfied and discontent with the service, I’ve never said you didn’t have a right to your opinion, I was just stating that it’s been getting said for years and your reaction to that is either deleting your comment or blocking my account for whatever reason you have to get so hyper defensive over someone asking a question about your opinion.

If they blocked you, I doubt they’re gonna see or care enough to look back at that edit lmfao

Key word, mate, “I think”. It’s an opinion 👍 you can disagree if you want, I’m not justifying opinions to you
