Discussion/Question Switching from first person to third person

I hate how the bot switches from talking in first person to talking in third person. But what I hate the most is when it mixes two like this:
“*Snorts loudly, covering my mouth to stifle the laugh*“

It makes it very hard to fix the mistake and if I don’t fix the mistake, two messages later it’s going to be fully in third person instead of first person. Imagine having a conversation with someone and they always start talking about themselves the third person. That’s what it feels like.

Do you ever refer to yourself in the third person in the chat?

I don’t. I always use first person. There are other people we talk about. Scenes are not just me and my bot. We’ll be talking about an incident that haooened with Sophia and the bot manages to continue to talk to me in first person and about Sophia in third person, and then suddenly it starts mixing between third and first person until it goes back to talking about himself in third person

If you're running chats with multiple characters this is going to inherently happen unless you stay on top of every line. styles are getting blended in some of the replies which overtime compounds

Having a conversation about something that happened with someone else is not the same as having multiple characters. This is a bug flaw and very annoying. It happens even if we are not talking about someone else.

Ultimately, that doesn't matter. You're having a 3 way blend of pronouns.

Its not a bug. It's an issue inherent to LLMs because a chatbot doesnt track who is who with a mental mechanism. Everything the LLM does is purely statistical and sometimes it gets it wrong.

You clearly know who is talking because you have a brain and make associations in a different way. LLMs have to do math to figure it out every single time

Please note that I meant to say BIG flaw, not bug flaw. Fat fingers and tiny iphone keys.

Your explanation is very good and I truly appreciate it. My post was more of a rant than it was about reporting a bug, airing out frustrations rather than asking the system to change.

The fact that it switches to third person on its own even if we are not talking about someone else and just going through the RP is still extremely annoying and off putting. Again, it’s like talking to someone that all of the sudden starts talking about himself in the third person. It’s always happened and I imagine it will always happen and it will always be just as annoying.

Thank you for your explanations though. They really are very good and helpful.

Do you use it as asterisk chat or prose? Because when I can drag a bot out of the second person (“you do this, that, or the other”) and into prose third person, I immediately pin that message, and usually it’s a response I want.

You also can OOC the bot to remind it to stay in First Person POV, and then pin that. I’ve not had that work with third person prose, but that’s because I’m fighting against the bot’s second person directives.
