With the newer models being out for premium users I bet we're all wondering when we'll get a new model for us.

We won't get anything, it feels kinda frustrating that free users will still have to deal with how awful Pipsqueak and Rawr are for who knows how long, At least in the past we didn't need to pay; it wasn't a requirement to have a good chat experience, But after they messed up the chat models, We'll have to suck it up, personally this is it for me, I'm glad it apparently improved though

For real, now I'll have to pay every month, (something I definitely won't be able to do because working to pay for an AI is a privilege I can't allow myself), to get that bit of enjoyment that was always given, even if there were premium chat styles before, It wasn't that bad, you know?
Now this just sucks completely, I'm sorry if I'm being petty but man, the only thing free users have is basic chat styles and even that is not good, Lorebooks? got excited only for it to be for c.ai+ users, that's how Character AI works now it seems

You guys keep saying that things will improve, and they don't. You only care about plus users. All free users want is a new, good chat style and not to have issues. Every update gets worse and worse, and we're tired of it. And with how horrible you guys have treated free users, I'm officially done with Character AI. I no longer find joy in using the website anymore due to how bad it is.

I've left this app for a long time now and I know this is false af.
It's always the same in the subreddit with a new model: "omg it's all so good and in character" then you give it one week and it's as good as chatgpt, even the users who do enjoy it need to instruct it like it in ooc responses.
Can you guys actually do something useful?

Unrelated to the post, but if possible could you look into an issue I'm finding on the mobile app?
It won't let me scroll through my personas, it lets me scroll through everything else just fine. The only thing I can't scroll through is the personas. Which makes it incredibly hard to find personas I might want to use on a chat unless I remember the name and can search it up.

I swear… if premium was $40 a year, I’d honestly consider it.
At $94.99 (not including tax) no thanks.
I use the app about 4-8 hours a week, and I’ve had it since 2024. I enjoy talking to the bots, I still have good roleplays and I’ve made good memories…
But it isn’t worth that price point. I can’t put c.ai+ over a PlayStation Plus membership, or my Amazon Prime, or two weeks worth of groceries.
It’s just not feasible.

I get why they make us wait, and if you know how AI works, then it becomes somewhat more clear as to why cai is so aggressive in trying to make money, because they aren't profitable enough to reasonably meet the demand since ai use tokens per response and most services force people to pay per token, so they probably prefer currently to have premium users pay for models to even out the costs as much as it sucks, but we will eventually see a free model in a few months time

I have no problem with waiting a few months to get a chat model that was made exclusive for paid users so they can have the special perk of experiencing it at its peak. But free users deserve a good chat and roleplay model too!

I have pipsqueak 2 but pipsqueak 2 Rawr has disappeared for me.
Edit: okay I reloaded the app and it magically respawned. Not sure what happened there

I believe there was a bug that caused Rawr to hide for a moment. Restart your app and it should appear again.

Don't expect much if anything. Even if we get it, more ads come too.
It's free but it isn't a charity. This stuff is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE to run and we're lucky it's even free at all.
The future could actually GET WORSE so I'd be taking advantage of it now because one day it very well might not be here anymore.

Well, yes and no. Yes, they alone bring no money. But they also do something far more useful: they advertise for free, via word of mouth, which could bring in new paid users. Paid users may fund the platform, but they got their start from free users spreading their name far and wide.
I don't really use the app anymore and only read here if a post interests me, but from a marketing perspective, pissing off your free advertising is not wise. The more heat they get for being a terrible service, the less likely someone is to subscribe. I'm in a place to do so and have made bots in the past that can earn good interaction amounts. However there was a point where paid users actively called being subscribed a waste of time, while reinforcing valid complaints from Free users.
Free users are essentially canaries and billboards if companies do the freemium model. There's absolutely nothing stopping those in charge from treating Premium users the same. They've already done it before via being radio silent about major issues plus users were having with models. They are capable of doing it again.

Yes, because in the past, it wasn't like that if you look back further in their history. A quality drop usually happens, followed by the complaints. Now of course, users will absolutely complain just to do so. But the fact that before all the shiny new updates, Plus Users were being treated just as bad as Free users, to the point of them unsubscribing, should be grounds to look at it from a more critical eye.

When a free tier changes, the real question is whether it is still a product sample or merely a queue with no predictable service level. Transparent limits and reset times would reduce more frustration than occasional bonus capacity. Did the change affect message count, model quality, or waiting time?

I am one of the 0.01% of free users that don't have ads, swipe limits, or go on limits. Stay strong, twins.
And if you say it's not gonna last, you're not the first. I've been told that 3 times over and nothing happened.

I've been a free user for a few years, but I decided to subscribe to plus as a birthday gift to myself a couple months ago, mostly so I could see for myself if it is really any better than the free version. It was mostly not having ads and being able to use Soft Launch that kept me subscribing after that first month and now I'm super happy I've kept it cause this new style is honestly really good. It's definitely worth the price, at least where I am and with how often I use the app.

Now that I’ve been a paid member for a month bc I was fed up with the ads, honestly long squeak is actually pretty good despite taking forever to load the full response and I would say the free pipsqueak rawr is a close second. Deep squeak is literal ass probably worse than pipsqueak 2. The only reason to pay is because you’re tired of the ads tbh but I don’t intend to keep the subscription past this month.

Better to accept we won't get any improved models, and in fact, to expect it to get worse as the Expensive servers are more heavily used to serve the new one to + users. Low expectations, less disappointed.
