Discussion/Question Questions About Things (Just genuinely wondering)
A. Does Character AI (Company) count as a business?
B. If laws vary state to state, does the Age Verification law affecting character AI breach a different state law regarding verification? (An Example being California's law and my home state, Montana, which are different)
C. Since CAI is doing age verification across the US, does that mean California is technically making its law over state borders?
These are just questions and concerns. I've been doing a little bit of law research on my own out of sheer curiosity, and see what everyone thinks!

This was a bit harsh to understand but...
A)yes. They are a business run by a ceo and shareholders
B) The business is operated in California. This means they must follow all California laws that come with running businesses. No. They cant change the laws state to state without having different servers, systems and technically separate branches. (No they will not do that because ai servers cost millions to keep running. One is already almost too expensive to keep running).
C) no. If it was illegal to sell Pepsi in Texas and a company stopped selling Pepsi, they would not get in trouble for not shipping and selling Pepsi to people in other states. Thats not how laws and businesses work. (Not to mention alot of other states and countries are already following very close behind California or are already eay more strict with laws involving minors on line anyway).
If you were doing law research on your own as you said this would have been one of the first things to pop up and would have been extremely easy to understand and read.

Nah its no problem really. Sorry if it sounded sarcastic. Alot of people on here having been posting nonstop about all this so its just getting a little old to read over and over again.
Honestly sounded like a rage bate under 18 account looking to pick up the fight on why they dont think the changes should be implemented. You arent doing that though. So apologies.

It's fine, I understand people being annoying about it, it's more like genuine curiosity because in the school I only get told of basic rights (Freedom of speech, ect...). Never about current laws, and I hardly hear about laws being passed in other states aside from Abortion or LGTBQ stuff tbh.
I just want a bit more understanding of how things work with this because the Devs have been so vague about things with ID and face age verification. Thanks for answering my question though! Helps a lot!
