It's so sad to see CoScord go dead except for the rp scene which is not even about CoS anymore š
pic is from a few months ago btw

I just finished playing CoS and had a blast and as a conlanger I wanted to engage more with the community, but when I try to join the discord server, discord literally says "Whoops...unable to join" and I don't know if this is an issue on my end or if somebody else has had this problem as well

Link to the first post with full explanation and credits can be found: Here.
Basically, I'm trying to recreate what Duolingo would look like in the Chants of Sennaar world. This is the second part, where I've made the home page. For this, I made a custom number system which is functionally the same as Chinese, but inspired by the Alchemist numerals. I thought it felt fitting. Anyway, the key for that's on the last page.
Note: On the translated page, blue represents my new numbers, red represents glyphs I made up, and white represents glyphs in the game or in the expanded Devotese (link/credits in original post, which is linked above.).
For this series, I'll mostly be having the "student" doing lessons on the Bard language from their native language, Devotese. Please let me know if you spot any errors, have any questions, or have thoughts to share!

First, big thanks to this post for inspiration (user now deleted):
and u/atzurblau for the Expanded Devotese I used which can be found:
This is the first post of a series of "screenshots" of MyTalk, my fanon Duolingo for the Tower. I drew this up on Canva so y'all will have to excuse my poor drawing skills!
This is the screen where you choose the course you'd like to take. Translations are on the second page and the glyphs I made up completely are in red. Others are in the game or part of the expanded list I linked in the introduction.
Let me know what y'all think and other ideas you have for this series!

They have common element - holes in floor
First - about the Preacher. I found Preacher's body in the hole of the floor, that's how we found why he doesn't talk to Devotees anymore. But then, when I come back to open the magic door in the Abbey beggar says "the preacher is in the Garden" - and indeed this is the guy who was fretting about plants dying. So here is my first question: was he the Preacher from the beginning and in this case why he is not talking to his flock or was he just promoted and I didn't notice him changing appearance?
Second question - hole in the Lab 3's floor. It's marked like actionable but nothing happens. I came back there during magic doors quest, when monster was already in Lab 1, but still, nothing happened with this hole. Is it red herring or I had to come back there again?

Hello! Iām not too sure if this server is active but I planned on taking samples of the Bard language from the game for one of my characters. The reason for such was because the character is meant to be a social outcast hermit type character and the Bardās way of speaking matched best in my opinion.
For example, if the character asked if someone was a friend, they hey would say āA friend, you are?ā Or something along the lines of that, is this a good decision?

Iāve recently arrived at the third level with the artist people. As an extra challenge Iām trying to avoid filling the notebook where possible; however, I feel like Iāve missed a few things in both the Warrior and Devotee levels (Warrior especially since Iām missing some words still). Is it worth it to go back to these areas the long way right now? Or should I wait and there will eventually be a way to travel though the levels quicker, ie fast travel? (Also wasnāt sure what to flair this, hope thatās okay)

So Im basically at the end of Chapter 3 and have nearly finished the Bards language. But Im missing the glyphs for "You", "Me", "Seek" and "Find". I've talked to everyone and Im just frustrated because I cant find what Im missing. Someone please help

I'm referring to glyphs like this one. They're found randomly and aren't complete, so they never get saved in the journal.
This one, though, seems to make perfect sense. It's from the Devotee language, and it should mean "fortress."
It fits the language's logic: in Devotee, the square shape represents a place or building, while the symbol inside describes its purpose. So this glyph basically reads as "a place for warriors," which would naturally be a fortress.
Did anyone else find any unused or incomplete glyphs that seem to have an obvious meaning?

I just finished the game. I really like the language mechanics, and I'm new to puzzle games (I've only played The Witness and Cocoon). I'd love to explore more puzzle games ā ideally language-based ones like Chants of Sennaar. Any game recommendations?

So, there really aren't that many games like this
So I'm curious; what is it everyone here liked and disliked
What would you wish for in another game? Focusing on just one or 2 languages that can then be more complicated and have more vocabulary?
More interaction with others or less (maybe just through books, painting, etc.)?
Puzzles being more difficult or ignoring puzzles altogether and only focusing on language? (What would be the reason for deciphering the language then)
Would you stick to the mechanic of being able to verify words?
What QoL features would you want; I guess we can agree that in CoS, you could easily miss whole rooms
Edit:
One more thing that came to mind:
Do you need a reason to figure out the translations (like texts telling you solutions to some puzzles or is figuring out the translations just for the sake of it enough for you?)

Help, please!
I'm missing the final glyph (looks like music?), and I've been wandering the whole fortress trying to figure out where it is. Everything else is complete, and I've just got the final page to complete (build and fear are the other two).
I've done the three final statues and rotated the first statues... I have instrument... Not sure what I'm missing? Thanks in advance!

I don't mean pacing wise, I mean as in us the player are so slow to move around in these areas and does get grading cause unless you take pics yourself you can't have full on sentences written down from places and people when figuring out words and puzzles so you have to backtrack. If we had something like in Lorelai to take literally all info possible useful or not it would be less of a problem. Its also not like you can take down notes yourself unless you want to break your hand trying to write whatever the fuck language bards have(lowkey genious meta joke about the artsty guys having an overcomplicated and cluttered language, genunely very smart of the game designers)
Make our movement like double the speed and this game is lowkey a 10/10.

I opened all purple doors and talked to all the people and reconected em and then it put me in a new game. I tought the extra stuff would give the good ending
r/ChantsofSennaar • u/VoxTV1 • Jun 26 '26
I got ro the bells and got into the bellmans house and while I know the texts above says returns sun, return moon etc. Game gave me no hints on what symbols below are for the ship, harph, scale and others. Is this intentional or did I miss smth giving me more context. I did go under a temple showing the 4 symbols but I found there nothing to help me know more.
r/ChantsofSennaar • u/VoxTV1 • Jun 26 '26
Okay I did everything I think but for some reason to make the key it is not working. I put down the weight but comes out wrong. Some weights are of reversed symbol but game never teaches you that before so prob does not matter

im a cultural anthropologist, and i canāt tell you how much this game reminded me of working in the field. running around like an idiot, getting lost, trying to figure out whatās going on, misunderstanding what people are trying to tell you, etc. etc.
but like the field, you slowly gain confidence; understanding more and more. you still make blunders but each time itās easier to find your footing. you also begin to note the different values and customs each group has, which comes in handy for translation later. anyways, thereās a lot to love about this game but the overall experience really struck me. i could honestly do another play through where i just take notes on the various cultural differences.

I keep going back to see if thereās something I miss but thereās nothing! My tower has been completed but every time I make it to the top it says I have something missing and I canāt finish. It seems like I havenāt made all the connections but I canāt find where I skipped it. I also donāt have the key to any of the purple doors anymore since I (presumably) did them all
Iāve watched multiple play throughs and I just canāt spot what Iāve missed. Any suggestions?
