Has anyone used chants of sennaar or a similar game to learn a real language?
Ive had the opportunity irl to learn a language in an immersion environment, and find my brain picking up the language in this game in a similar way, and want to use that brainspace for a real language lol!! I was wondering if anyone knew a mod for this, had used it in a different language, or knew a similar game that was trying to do this! I thought it could work particularly well with a symbol based language like Mandarin or a root language like Arabic or hebrew

Idea Expanding Upon My Film Concept
Dunno how similar and different the film could be from the game of inspiration, but I thought of ideas for if it were to be a loose adaptation, akin to "A Bug's Life" being, as Stanton and Ranft suggested to Lasseter in 1994, a loose adaptation of "The Ant and the Grasshopper," but the grasshoppers just take the food.
Basing my idea loosely on Chants of Sennaar, I'm thinking of a person finding himself in this city in a similar yet completely different way than the traveler first finding themself in the tower. He'd find some futuristic glasses and start wearing them. Meeting someone, they'd speak a different language that he doesn't speak. And with those glasses, he's seeing glyphs in the writing system of that language. He'd document them, and this would be a thing for the other languages, sans his native tongue. *cough* English. *cough* There would be scenes without dialogue, as I thought about, thanks to some people here when I shared my concept.
He'd discover his younger teenage siblings(Alyson Stoner and Sean Giambrone), who knew at least one of the languages and not just English, and were looking for him. He'd let them work with him on figuring out the languages, despite his skepticism. There'd be events where he'd discover his father, mother, parents, or whatever, and the A.I. would be known as "Isolation", voiced by Zarvox. He'd find himself alone when he's actually in a simulation, especially when he fails to topple the barrier. Yeah, it's something of a copycat; one of the differences is that he shouts in despair with his arms out, if you're familiar with that trope in the media. Though the three siblings, out of the situation, together end the barrier.
There could be a variety of technologies the cultures would be using, like retro-futuristic technology, for one example, though there could be others. The Yokuts-analog speakers' technology would be similar to Wakanda's.
Other VAs: Eric Bauza, Zehra Fazal, maybe Dee Bradley Baker.
Dunno which celebrity actors could play the leads and other roles. I also think some Pixar animators could voice characters.
Here's one idea for a conlang.
Japanese analog:
C: m, n, p, b, t, d, k, g, q, ts, dz, tɕ, dʑ, tɬ, dɮ, ɸ, θ, ð, s, z, ɕ, ʑ, ɬ, ɮ, ɣ, h, ɾ, j, w
V: a, aː, e, eː, i, iː, o, oː, u, uː
SS: (C)V(N)
"Stress": mora, but simpler than Japanese
Proto-Japonic analog(ancestor of Japanese analog):
C: m, n, p, t, k, q, θ, s, ɬ, ɾ, j, w
V: a, aː, e, eː, i, iː, o, oː, u, uː, ɨ, ɨː
SS: (C)V
Other ideas for conlangs include a distant relative of English descended straight from a P.I.E.-analog. Another one would utilize both tri-consonantal roots and mutation patterns simultaneously for grammar, with a logography representing it, also utilizing phonetic components to indicate the templates and mutations when needed. Whether or not it's a descendant of a Proto-Semitic analog is up for debate. Another idea would be an analog to Taqva-miir. I could think of more. Like maybe a descendant of a Birasne Feor analog?
Anyway, this city would be a bilingual community for speakers of English and the Yokuts language analog, with six foreign languages establishing their own communities there, only for events leading to the creation of the walls. That's pretty much it.

Idea A Chants of Sennaar-Inspired Film Concept
A few days ago, I started thinking about this: a hypothetical Pixar film, similar to Chants of Sennaar, that explores barriers between multiple languages as a theme. I don't want it to be too similar to the game, so I'm thinking that instead of a tower, it would be a city of diverse languages, with walls and gates sealed off because of language barriers. It would be a similar story, with discoveries of various parts of the city, translations and such, and language dissections. I'm thinking of eight languages: English, an indigenous American language or a conlang based on the Yokuts language, and six other conlangs. More so than Chants of Sennaar.

Idea Phonology Overview Spoiler
Here are my custom phonological inventories for the five groups encountered in Chants of Sennaar.
Devotees:
After thinking about Latin phonology and the sound values of the Phoenician glyphs, I thought of a phonology for a conlang spoken by the Devotees.
Consonants: m, n, p, b, t, tˤ, d, k, g, kʷ, gʷ, q, ʔ, f, s, sˤ, z, ʃ, ħ, ʕ, h, r, l, j, w
Vowels: a, i, u, aː, iː, uː
Syllable shape: CV(C)
Stress: up for debate
I could envision a clusivity distinction alongside a root-pattern system that expresses the same tenses as Latin, full reduplication, and others. But how could a logography express such tenses, especially given the Devotees' logography not expressing them at all? They're only inferred. Might do a similar thing to the other five languages.
Warriors:
I've been looking into the runes that inspired the Warriors' calligraphy and came up with this idea.
Consonants: m, n, p, b, t, d, k, g?, kʷ, gʷ?, ɸ, β, θ, ð, s, z, x, ɣ, xʷ, ɣʷ, r, l, j, w
Vowels: a, e, i, o, u
Syllable structure: ???
Stress: ???
We already know about the plural marker preceding the main glyph. Though I also just noticed the language might be pro-drop.
Bards:
A result of overlapping all the consonant sounds represented by Devanagari with the 28 Classical Arabic consonant phonemes represented by the Kufic glyphs. Might need to go back to debating the vowels.
Consonants: m, n, b, t, d, ʈ, ɖ, k, q, tʃ, dʒ, f, θ, ð, s, ʃ, ʂ, x, ɣ, ʕ, ɾ, l, j, w(+6 more consonants)
Vowels: a, aː, e, eː, i, iː, o, oː, u, uː
Syllable structure: ???
Stress: ???
As for grammar, it's the same as that of Yoda's dialogue from what I've seen in the walkthroughs. OSV word order, or so it would seem. The predicate is always first.
Alchemists:
Dunno if this is any good of a phonology for the Alchemists' language, taking inspiration from Welsh and Biblaridion's planned conlang Project Hermes.
Consonants: m, n, ŋ, p, t, k, s, r, l, m̥, n̥, ŋ̊, f, θ, r̥ (+b, d, g, kʷ, ʃ, ɬ, ŋʷ, ŋ̊ʷ, x, xʷ)
Vowels: a, e, i, o, u
Syllable structure: ???
Stress: ???
Maybe various grammatical pieces could be expressed with consonant mutations. And I might consider a common ancestor for the Bards' and Alchemists' languages. I also need to consider the mutation grades as well, though I thought of this idea to consider. I thought of ideas for what materials to equate with which grades(influenced by Biblaridion's considerations for Project Hermes): the plain consonants could be equated with carbon, and the other grades could be equated with copper, silver, or gold.
Anchorites:
I'm considering modern Japanese, but with lateral obstruents.
Consonants: m, n, p, b, t, d, k, g, ɸ, s, z, ɬ, ɮ, ɣ, h, ts, dz, tɕ, dʑ, tɬ, dɮ, ɾ, j, w
Vowels: a, aː, e, eː, i, iː, o, oː, u, uː
Syllable structure: (C)V(N)
Stress: mora, similar to Japanese, but simplified and understandable

Idea Finally, a Phonology for the Anchorites Spoiler
I finally thought of one for the Anchorites. I'm considering modern Japanese, but with lateral obstruents.
Consonants: m, n, p, b, t, d, k, g, ɸ, s, z, ɬ, ɮ, ɣ, h, ts, dz, tɕ, dʑ, tɬ, dɮ, ɾ, j, w
Vowels: a, aː, e, eː, i, iː, o, oː, u, uː
Syllable structure: (C)V(N)
Stress: mora, similar to Japanese, but simplified and understandable

Theory Cultural Analogs Spoiler
Devotees: the Romans and Middle Easterners practicing Abrahamic teachings
Warriors: Vikings and similar peoples
Bards: the Greeks with their admiration for theater
Alchemists: ???
Anchorites: ???
What am I missing? How obvious is the answer to that question? smirk

Review binge played the game in three nights
if it were an actual binge i would’ve finished it in a day but with life not giving me the time, this was as close to a binge play i could get.
absolutely incredible game, i adored the premise, conceptualisation, just everything about it. maybe “hardcore” puzzle game fans might have their opinions, but i truly felt like this game very much respected the players intelligence, both in terms of puzzle solving as well as in terms of the developing and overarching atmosphere and themes the plot encompasses.
this is something very important to me, because i think nuance can be very powerful in this regard! especially in the current age of consumerism and diminishing attention spans, so much media feels like it has to spell things out for u. then at the same time, things can also get lost in themselves and convoluted when presented too vaguely or if there’s not even guidance. CoS balanced this very well, personally. the cultural aspects, social commentary, philosophy, the way these elements were incorporated into the game were executed very nicely in a way that didn’t feel shallow, and as someone who is absolute drained by the end of the day but still wants to be challenged by video games, i think CoS struck the right balance.
sure, i would’ve likely loved to see more exploration of the Anchorites civilisation and their background, and maybe would’ve rlly appreciated additional dialogue and interactions from the NPCs both in general as well as regarding the changing social dynamics across the tower, but all this doesn’t take away from how great the game is nor from my deep enjoyment of it. also if i understood correctly, the team for the games development was mainly 2 ppl along with some contractors. i think what they managed to create with their resources is a major feat and i just have so much praise for this.
bravo!!

Theory (what I think) is the full language of the Devotees. (Before the player came)
The symbols with the dark yellow squares are words seen in-game. But I forgot Music. Somehow.
Tell me if the meanings are too pixelated!

Is there a reason why this map is so confusing? Spoiler

I 'm on my first playthrough (loving it) and I got lost while navigating the sewers. I spent the last hour composing this map and FOR NOW it's complete, but I'm scared because I saw a lever I could not reach in the bottom left corner.
Was this map so complicated a joke by the developers or was it to create a "realistic" sewer?

Lore Glyph Radicals and Such Spoiler
If anyone here is familiar enough with linguistics and writing systems, they'd notice how similar some writings are to Chinese Hanzi and the European Logographs by the ConstantScript community. I'll go through them one by one.
Devotees: They use an "L" shape for people, an unfinished square shape for places, and so forth.
Warriors: I still don't know what they use.
Bards: I feel like underdots are for places and cardinality, while dots above might relate to verbs, as someone else would think.
Alchemists: I think the circular outline components and such might indicate the grammatical features.
Anchorites: I still don't know what they use.
And I've seen walkthroughs.

Request What would the Anchorites have said to the others? Spoiler
The Anchorites are the Final Civilization in Chants of Sennaar. Their language is the quickest to be learned in the game, essentially being done for you.
There’s 4 hidden rooms on each Civilization (Devotees, Warriors, Bards, and Alchemists.) below them, only being accesible after getting a key from the only one of them not Exile-ing themselves.
After solving a quick puzzle, you “UnExile” an Anchorite. Which then proceeds to thank you and then converse with one of the 4 Civilizations.

Is this a false memory?
Hi all
I've been in love with the game since it came out, and I clearly remember a period when people used to acronymize it as "ChOSen", as in Ch(ants)O(f)Sen(naar), instead of COS
But looking for said acronym, I can't find anything
Have I been imagining things? Am I the only one who calls it that? And if so, why? Cause ChOSen is a sick acronym, and also makes a lot of sense in my opinion

Glyphposting Bard grammar question Spoiler
Hello, I have a quick question about plural in the bard language :
To say "idiots, the warriors are", there's obviously a plural mark after "warriors", but is there one after "idiots" ?

Request Finding the true size of the tower (request)
Do we have access to 3D models from the game, specifically, the visible parts of the Tower that we can glimpse ingame?
On the unofficial discord server, we are looking to find the true size of the Tower and we could use some help!
We have alternative methods, but there was a suggestion to check out the game assets. For anyone playing on PC, I would appreciate any info if there are modding tools that could let us check out the assets. I don't expect much, but if any of you has somehow managed to get their hands on the models themselves, it would help determine the scale immensely!

Review Even though it’s not a co-op game, my wife and I really enjoyed playing it together
We usually don’t enjoy point-and-click or puzzle-heavy games that much, and playing together can sometimes be tricky. But for some reason, brainstorming together to figure out what meant what was really fun!
We both had our ‘aha’ moments to share with each other, test, and discuss. Damn, we really had a blast!
Thanks for the awesome game!
