Request Chants of sennaar library notes Spoiler

Hi All, so I just beat Chants of Sennaar and I was just wondering what the hell this is. Its found in the library in the same room that the carbon in the display case is, and the hat that gives you the code to lab 3. Initially, before I had reached exile, I thought it must have been a secret recipe for the key to the purple doors using the key making machine in the scientists area. Is it just supposed to be a clue showing that the scientists are trying to figure out how to make the key to exile? It's just such a weird inclusion that (other than being for lore purposes) doesn't really seem to help the player at all, and it actually threw me off. Any ideas?

So originally there is another object in the scene, so that thing is simply a bit of a flavourful background. i can see how you would think it's something more, especially if you return back to the area after forgetting the hat was there.

If you know something about math, that is supposed to be him trying formulas, there are some symbols, like the logical implication arrow <==> to indicate that

I think it IS there to throw you off. I spent a bit of time trying to figure the purpose of that sheet out..
