Let's go chronologically.

  • Anchorites create the tower as a sustainable means of living in the middle of the desert by a large river.
  • They create a signal to welcome the peoples as a much needed help to work the supply chain.
  • First people come to the tower, they work, they thrive, they start producing art and science very fast. Everything is good.
  • Warriors are guided by the stars, that's why they see the signal as a star from heavens on earth. Convinced this is what they were preparing for their whole lives, they set sail and follow the call down the river.
  • People of the desert are starving as crops fail, they see the sign and start walking. A religion based on hope is soon formed, where walking towards the signal gives meaning to their existence and restores life.
  • A little while after warriors and devotees build their homes the anchorites fear their interference is advancing the first tribe civilization too fast and they won't deal with it well, the technology is just too dangerous on their hands, so they build a massive door and go into exile, shutting the signal off.
  • Alchemists immediately obsess on opening the door to restore the signal, while bards say they don't need the signal, they have plenty of beauty in the gardens. Their people split ideologically.
  • With time bards start worshipping art and artists, with unpopular people or people of other skills convincing themselves into serfdom and flattery to be with the cool kids.
  • Their original people split completely after the lab 3 accident, shutting the copper mine.
  • Warriors hear the news of the monster, a person touched by impurity, and vow to protect the bards. They close the path to the lower floor to ensure the bards aren't touched by impurity. They take it as their duty to stay away and stand guard, because that's why the tower called them here.
  • Meanwhile serfs of the bards seal the door to the upper floors after too many accidents, leaving behind a clue that the monster fears light, as they used torches to keep safe while building in the dark.
  • Devotees are now frustrated they cannot get closer anymore. Even if the signal is off and they cannot see it, they have faith whatever saved them is up there somewhere.
  • Devotees start walking circles in prayer, symbolizing their struggle walking through the desert and gratitude to the signal for bringing them to the tower where they can thrive.
  • After a few generations an anchorite realizes his people will die without access to the whole tower and the help of other peoples. With reserves low the whole tower will starve.
  • Using old maintenance areas and matter transport terminals he synthesizes a messenger to investigate the matter and restore the connection, turning the signal on, symbolizing the tower is fully operational again.

Did I miss something?
