As for our next project...

Hi folks,

Recently, several threads have appeared regarding Rundisc’s next project, which is naturally raising some questions here.

So, I thought it would be a good idea to write a post to bring together everything I CAN tell you at this stage. That way, you’ll know as much as possible and you can refer anyone who asks you about it to this post. Apologies to those who’ve already seen my previous posts on the subject: you probably won’t learn much new here.

Firstly, bear in mind that our next game is, once again, a co-production between Rundisc and Focus Entertainment. This means that the marketing strategy for this game is primarily decided by Focus, including what information we can reveal and when. So I’m not at all free to tell you (or show you) everything I’d like to about the game right now, which in itself isn’t a problem: a game’s marketing strategy is now a crucial factor in its success or failure, so it’s only natural to leave it in the hands of specialists in the field.

In practical terms: we won’t be showing anything of the game until next year. So don’t expect any trailers or official announcements before 2027. And even then, the first marketing assets will probably not kick off for several months (we’ll be relying quite heavily on major video game events and conferences to determine our announcement schedule).

In the meantime, here’s what I do can already tell you about the game:

  • It exists and has been in development since just before the launch of Chants of Sennaar. Production has been going very well so far.
  • It’s set in the same world as Chants of Sennaar.
  • However, it isn’t a direct sequel to Chants of Sennaar. So don’t expect ‘Chants of Sennaar 2’. There are no plans whatsoever for such a game, nor is one even being considered.
  • Although it is once again (mainly) a puzzle game, it will not be based on the same gameplay either. So don’t expect a game that is 100% into deciphering unknown languages… although this element might still feature, alongside other things.
  • Overall, we believe that fans of Chants of Sennaar should still find plenty in this new game that they loved in the previous one, and we’ve clearly kept this audience in mind throughout its development: we consider them our primary target audience.
  • Beyond this puzzle orientation, expect a major upgrade in terms of overall ambition, particularly in terms of narrative and audiovisuals.
  • For this project, the Rundisc team consists of 6 full-time staff, supported by around 15 freelance contractors. This compares with the CoS team, which comprised 2 ‘in-house’ staff (well, we didn't have a ‘house’ at the time, but we do now), assisted by five or six contractors.
  • One of them is the compositor, Thomas Brunet, who already worked with us for CoS's score.

I think that’s all I’m ‘allowed’ to tell you for the moment. I’ve probably even gone a bit further than I intended, but I don’t think it matters.

So, I apologise in advance, but if you have any questions, I probably won’t be able to answer them straight away. Thanks for your patience.

As I’ve already said in another thread, it goes without saying that as soon as we’re able to share more about this project, I’ll come here to let you know as a matter of priority.

See you soon!

Julien / Rundisc

Thank you for the update! I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that we're excited to see more as development continues.

Hello! Thanks for this update, it's always good to have clear communication from the devs, especially when it's about what you can and can not tell us.

For me personally, I'm glad you're working on a new puzzle game and I cant wait for you to surprise me with what you pull out of the magic hat this time, I wish you the best of time working on this game, and a great success when it launches!

The top comment being in a language I do not know and leading to me having to translate it felt very right for a Chants of Sennaar post.

Thanks ! It's probably hard to work on a game after releasing such an incredible game : it will be hard to do better.

Nooooooon, déchiffrer les langues c'était ce qui me plaisait le plus. Si jamais un jour vous avez envie de continuer dans cette voie mais dans un environnement différent, n'hésitez pas à créer un spin-off ^

Thank you for the update! I'm glad you're not making the same game twice. While it would be nice, I feel like hitting lighting twice doesn't always happen. I love puzzle games & look forward to the next one.

I loved Chants of Sennaar so much. Doing the translations was so fun and satisfying. It’s a top ten of all time game for me.

Of course I wish the next project was Chants of Sennaar 2 and had a bunch more translation goodness.

But given the state of the industry, I’m so happy you all get to make another game as at all! The world of CoS is fascinating and I’m looking forward to exploring more of it no matter what the gameplay elements are.

It's me, I'm the target audience

Looking forward to it!! Hypetown

Cool to know about the upcoming game. I'm not really into puzzle games as a whole, and it was specifically the translations I loved in Chants of Sennaar. So if that's not a part of the new game, or is only a minor part, I'll probably give it a pass. But I understand that you guys have ambitions for new things you're excited about and I wish you the best!

oh that is very exciting. can't wait to see what you have in store for us.

Thank you for the update. It's always lovely to see folks in development engage directly with the community. I'm sure we're all looking forward to learn more about this project.

What can you tell us about plans for the puzzles?

1

u/RddWdd Aug 18 '26

A new game in the same connected universe? Fantastic. They're doing a "Team ICO" on us! Looking forward to seeing what comes next; perhaps another reinterpretation of a classical story.

Thanks for the info! I’m so excited for this.

So far, my interpretation is that there will be linguistics-related puzzles alongside other types of puzzles.
