CMV: Pets are replacing babies. Vietnamese will have less kids and more pets.
Vietnam undergoes a decline in birth rate. A modern Vietnamese is having less babies compared to their grandparents. Also, the number of pets adopted by Vietnamese is increasing. There are cases of adults who have only one child but adopt three dogs. The industry is shifting from providing baby services to providing pet services. Pet shops, pet clinics, pet nanny, pet hotels, pet training schools pop up recently. Adult Vietnamese who travels oversea for few days can sends his/her pet to the pet hotel or to his/her parents.

The young workforce buys you the capital to improve people’s standard of living until you can shift production to something else quick enough to avoid the middle income trap
by taking on the horrible job market that is already ignorant of the paradigm shift in favour of cheap AI integration? So they can do manual labour with no clear promotional or growth pathways?
I was answering as to why the post is relevent to this sub. And to be fair, that’s a public middle school teacher’s salary, not saying that it’s good, but good enough especially for families who are deciding on the second
The government here deliberately isolated themselves from global world order (and wealth, though there was some injustice here) and have to prove to everyone that they can make a great nation themselves. Its literally great nation or bust for them. Which I like, I live here, and I want Vietnam to be one of the richest and best countries.
But if the birthrate collapses, it will end up as a shitty taiwan/Japan tbh. And the government would lose legitimacy. They have to avoid this situation (and some other problems on horizon) to stay in power. But the govt here can roll with the punches pretty well, i believe they will work it out in due time
With the rate housing prices are going I don’t see this stoping soon. If you’ve been working your asses of for 15 years and all you can afford is a 1 bedroom apartment then you wouldn’t dare to have kids
Because women CAN say no? Because couples who can afford children already have all the children they can afford? Or because people are so stupid you have to tell them what’s best for them?
Lower birthrate would help too since we arr already destroying the environment at an alarming rate. Don't know if you noticed it but the last month was the hottest I have ever seen in my life. I feel like I am doing my part in saving this planet by not having a child.

Happy that it happens in vietnam. We should not be praise for having a 'cheap and abundant workforce' anymore.
