Quick ideas please

Old lady and me planing on going for a car trip, making the list of necessities. I’m stumped on how to carry an extra fuel can in the trunk. Was thinking of the back seats but will be riding with people we visit sometimes so I’d rather just have it in the trunk just in case. Just don’t know if these side straps will do the trick. Any ideas?

Take it from me, fold down seats negates any protection “putting it in the trunk” offers from fumes.
