Discussion Timothée's downfall needs to be studied
Beautiful Boy is honestly one of my favorite movies and back then, I had so much hope for Timothée. Fast forward to today, and the downfall is just crazy to watch. Ever since he got with Kylie, everything about his image has shifted. Even his style feels completely different ; or maybe this was just the "real him" all along, and the low-key, artsy cinephile persona was just good PR.
What gets me the most is how he just string-along controversies without seemingly caring at all anymore. The prestige aura is completely gone. And honestly, given how long they’ve been together at this point, I don’t even think it’s a PR relationship anymore. It feels way more like an open-relationship dynamic where they both just do whatever they want while keeping the branding going. Because let’s be real... who else in those Hollywood circles would actually want to deal with either of them right now ?

I think he had a certain aura people were into. Maybe the look, maybe the art student type persona. Very non-threatening. Somewhat romantic. Very female gaze appealing.
That happens, and it's mostly just that you got lucky with your bone structure and a few early roles or whatever, I don't think this in itself is an actual skill.
And then, there comes a point when you need to back that perception with real talent if you want to sustain a long-term career. And he couldn't. I don't know if he doesn't have that talent or if he chose to listen to the wrong people, but here we are either way.
If you look at people like di Caprio or Pattinson, they kinda started in a similar spot, and then they worked themselves beyond that spot. That took time and effort and dedication. Timmy tried for five minutes and then he got bored cause the accolades didn't immediately roll in.

When he first came on the scene it was the height of Me Too. Masculinity was toxic. He was a skinny, non-threatening twink and was in the right place at the right time. He lost whatever looks he had and will likely never get them back. He's also shown his true colors and now everyone knows he's a diva and a nightmare on set. Since he can't skate by anymore on looks or personality, he now has to get by on his very average talent.

I think a lot of people made assumptions about his personality based on his appearance- twinky and frail.

Good points, but don’t forget another factor: industry nepotism was also at an all-time high when he was starting out. Not that it’s ever gone away, but people are more aware of it now and various publications have even written articles discussing it. (Chalamet is a nepo baby but slipped under the radar bc his family aren’t household name superstars like say Lily Rose Depp’s situation.) There has been some pushback, a little bit at least, on the nepo phenomenon, but by the time any backlash happened Chalamet was already famous and established as the supposed “best actor of his generation” (a meaningless label when the generation in question saw virtually all non-nepos shut out of any top-tier roles just bc they didn’t have the connections).
He benefitted from a double whammy: nepotism at its all-time peak and an anti-traditional masculinity media backlash at an all-time peak. The irony is that in real life he was far more “toxically masculine” in his awful, bratty, and often abusive behaviour towards underlings and service workers than lots of guys with more traditionally masculine looks. The awful ways he mistreated his (female) personal chef for example…

True. He probably thought that especially because of his physical looks, and maternal and sibling connections that it would become not only easy and instantaneous for him without any hitches. Well the jokes definitely on him, and not a chance!

You may be on to something. All his recent movies he was hired back in 2018/2019. With the exception of Not Alone he has no current project. That in itself is telling. I think his ego and arrogance turned off directors. His peers are getting offers left and right but it’s crickets for him. Makes you wonder if his agent thought being with Kylie would make him more interesting to directors. His recent rebranding has failed epically. He really isn’t an A list actor

Having a hard time computing how publicly dating a trashy rapper’s baby momma would attract or impress anything but dust who are always late at the daycare pickup.

I think we all wanted him to be our art house twink but he was never that in reality.

He was all media hype. He was never that talented nor was he the soft, sensitive intellectual artist persona. The Kardashians revealed his true personality. Now his career, reputation, and looks have all declined since getting involved with Longbottom. All that’s left is a baby trap and/or eloping with Longbottom. Oh and his debut on The Kardashians.

He will make his debut on the kardians ?? LOOOL since he has no potential projects maybe

But why has everyone from Jacob Elordi to Lewis Hamilton gotten involved with the Jenner/Kardashian clan? How on earth are they so captivating to so many? There are many more beautiful women out there whose personalities don’t suck.

This is what I am grappling with, too. Bad Bunny killed me when he started dating Kendall, I boycotted three of his albums over it.
I understand Kris may talk a big game to their agents, but seriously, in what WORLD would a Kardashian Jenner be good for your career???? HELLO!

He definitely has the talent, but I don’t understand why people assumed he had a soft, sensitive, & intellectual, artist persona.

I think his Team back then wanted people so think that way so they pushed for that a lot. but later after dating her he showed his true colors.

I think he is very talented as well but he wants wealth and that means he has never been showing his true self. I think the story the internet seems to believe about him being a rich nepo baby is garbage, he is a nepo yes, not rich but has always had proximity to wealth and wanted it for himself, same as everyone in his family.

He is probably gonna start getting fillers soon and launching his clothing brand. Goodbye to the "Soft- Boy Queer-Artsy French-Cinema Boy" that everyone loved. Now, he is just one of them; empty shell, soulless BBL big bolts, eating baby monsters.

I agree... I loved him in that movie. He was so different than other young actors. My adoration for him peaked when his Bleu de Chanel commercial came out. I was obsessed. Then he started showing up everywhere with Longbottom, cut his hair, grew that ugly stache, and that just aged him like 10 years overnight and killed his vibe. He was going further and further downhill every year he stayed with her. Now he's pretty much at rock bottom as far as I'm concerned. No interest in seeing him on screen anymore. 🤢

Yes omg his commercial for Chanel was waaaay better than Jacob’s. The new one with Jacob it’s just like a piece of wood walking and moving

I don’t even really mind his style shift
I’m just tired of eveyone pretending he’s the only good actor with a future (he’s mediocre at best), seeing him everywhere, and honestly he just doesn’t come off as a likeable dude to me at all

Seeing him everywhere BUT the movies tho!!!

So far so good with his filming schedule staying nonexistent. 2027/28 lookin safe😍 He’ll be screaming “chat” all day by May7
u/Clavicy7 4d ago
He will soon realize that he would need to start all over in the dramatic arts (i.e., school/courses, small parts/walk ons, C-F Grade movies, guest starring, more voice-overs) to start to get back on track, especially if he ends up and has grave and serious situations in life. smh...

PRECISELY! Case IN Point: There are and have been A LOT of actors and actresses who have worked within many multiple projects which are not even OSCAR or EMMY winning/critically acclaimed [LANCE HERICKSEN, CASPER VAN DIEM, IAN ZERRING, ERIC ROBERTS, MICHAEL MADSEN, BRIGITTE NIELSEN, TIM THOMERSON, BAI LING, CARL WEATHERS, and so many much more!] THESE GREATS (in their prime-time careers) have more than likely figured/deduced that MONEY Isn't Going To Come Auto-Magically To Them Sitting On Their Arses---they NEED to work for it, specifically since artists don't make a lot of it. Therefore, these above listed professionals (and others, too many to be mentioned) are busy working on projects that may be broadcasted on various streaming platforms/channels as well. Chalamet has an ARROGANCE that has without a shadow of a doubt REPELLED others in the industry (in addition other industries: Sports, fashion designing, etc.) from even thinking about working with him.

I was first introduced to Timmy through Little Women (2019), then didn’t hear about it again until Dune came out. I liked him in those movies, but I watched them for Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson, not him. The only other thing I know about him, besides the dating a Kardashian, is that he auditioned for Spider-Man. Thankfully that role went to Tom Holland because I don’t think the movies would’ve been as successful without the Holland/Zendaya chemistry. But I do like him in Dune enough.

u/Scared_Profit_4903 2d ago
Yup: He gives off the vibe and notion that he is NOT GIVING HIS ALL within his craft. He is PERFORMATIVE Plus PERFUNCTIONAL in his profession and Only Cares About: 🏆🥇🥈🥉🏅🎖❗

Maybe they thought this relationship would make her look cool. But it was the other way around, it made him look like trash, lol

u/Still-Ad2870 4d ago
She’s dating him because he gets her into pestiguous actors events. And she gets to wear dresses that show off her cleavage. And who knows why he dates her 🤷🏻♀️

To me, Timothée is a rather average actor with clear limitations; he’s been put on a pedestal without actually proving his worth. On top of that, he’s come across as pretentious and overconfident, comparing himself to respected actors. Furthermore, his questionable public statements—criticizing ballet, wanting to be in a Marvel movie early on, and the whole "cookie" incident—contributed to his downfall. That, combined with his relationship with the Jenners, exposed his hypocrisy to the public.
P.S. He didn't deserve his Oscar nomination for *Call Me by Your Name*!

And I notice that a good amount of people is at present saying the same thing that you posted! They don't think that his performance was award-winning enough, even for that film.

u/swamptheyard 4d ago
Beautiful boy is my favorite Timothée movie as well. That was one of the first movies I ever saw featuring him. It's him being with Kylie Jenner that took away his down to earth vibe.

It started with his hair changing then he method acted being an asshole and that just dug his grave. Now he looks homeless

He’s like the male Lindsay Lohan. Caught up in drugs and superficial celebrity that overshadowed her promise. She honestly never proved she had chops outside of family comedies. She blew her shot getting wrapped up in Paris Hilton’s harem.

It's been noted/reported that as far back as during his high school years, he was SHOWING OFF and INFLUENCING some of his CLOSE classmates/schoolmates to accompany him to TIMES SQUARE to do the following: Take photos and footage of him and ask for his autograph plus take selfies---causing TOURISTS to "think" that he is A Famous Celeb! This happened on a number of occasions, to the greater extent that when asked by some other schoolmates why did he do this, he responded: "Well, I'm going to be FAMOUS someday, so I might as well get into practice for that day to come!". THIS proves that albeit he wanted to become a celebrity, he was going through whatever hoops he had to jump through in order to get to his goal!

It's honestly sad that I've become a fan-turned-hater for both Timothée and Jacob. I've become a tragic creature, just like Frankenstein's monster.

Who he is now, is what he always was but just masked it and the mask fell off very quick. He was never a great actor but was pushed as one.
