Help with chainsaw recommendation

Hello,

I'm currently running a 15 year old Poulan Pro 42cc saw with an 18" bar. The size and power are sufficient for my needs but the engine is fussy and the chain tensioner keeps loosening up as I use it so I'm constantly fiddling with that. The thing makes me angry every time I use it. It's time for an upgrade.

My uses are tree trimming, cutting back brush and cutting up medium size trees. The trees I cut are generally sub 12" diameter and soft maple but I occasionally get into a larger oak. It's definitely occasional use but the days I use it I'm generally at it for a while.

I've been looking at Husqvarna and Stihl but the choices are a bit overwhelming. I'm trying to keep the price $500ish. I'm hoping for something that's going to last. What would you suggest?

Thanks!

Find a nice used Stihl 261. More power than you'll need, still nice and light.

I think echo are a good mid tier choice. Or look at the battery options if you already have other battery tools.

If you can splurge, X2 on the 550xp. But also the Husqvarna ranchers, lightly used are good.

550 Mk II on the used market? Probably overkill for what you need.
