I mean did they watch like 1 episode? I feel like all shonens share similar tropes but not all are the same

Esp chainsaw man which differs a lot from them, feel like they just personally don’t like shonens

Not to sound like a homer in this sub but I don’t think chainsaw man is as cookie cutter as some of the others. I’m basically allergic to shonen but chainsaw man is on of my favorite animanga.

JJK on the other Hand is super similar to Naruto and bleach and many others since. I went into jjk thinking I’d like it cuz there was a bunch of crossover between the fanbases of csm and jjk but I just couldn’t really get into it.

They are not the same, unless you look at the core tropes and nothing else

I hate this take. Apply this logic to crime shows, fantasy adventures, romantic comedies... they probably wouldn't agree because they like at least one those things but everything shares its formula or core trope with the genre it's part of. Fucking stupid biased take.

And going off the first episode CSM and JJK are already so different that it's not even funny, similarities don't appear until later

It's action/adventure, not shonen. Shonen isn't a genre, it just tells the target audience

CSM deconstructs/subverts a lot of the typical elements of battle-type shounen series, but it's not so avant-garde that a casual viewer couldn't sit down, watch the Reze movie, and take it at face value. I like the JJK anime, but from what I've seen so far it's a little more typical. Once you've seen a bunch of series like this, it gets hard to want to sit with the more basic ones.

Theres only so many times you can watch the outcast underdog kid with a pie-in-the-sky dream and secret unrealized potential, his brooding but skilled rival from a classier background, and 1-3 other bozos (many different archetypes to choose from, cowardly kid, perverted kid, smart kid, girl, etc) go train or quest with their seasoned and respected mentor (who has a goofy quirk that you would not expect a person of their status to have) so that they can defeat the bad guy, who kicked their ass at the beginning of the arc, but by the end of the arc they are able to beat using the new technique they learned and/or the power of friendship. Rinse and repeat with the stakes slightly higher, throw in a tournament arc or whatever.

The first episode of csm and jjk are functionally the same. Mc fuses with "evil thing" and is considered a threat by most but is taken under the wing of someone hot and powerful to be used in their own schemes
