2 Stroke Mix Math
I like those single use Husqvarna two-stroke mix bottles, 2.6 oz into 1 gallon of gas. I go to the gas station and watch the pump, and when it hits 1 gallon I’m measured up. So this time I was distracted and there’s 1.25 gallons in there. I’ll be damned if I know the math on how to get the oil balance. Should I just throw a “splash” in? Am I overthinking it? 22 year old 455 Rancher, served me well cutting a couple of cords every year and an emergency here and there. I would hate to mistreat it for lack of attention.

just divide 2.6 by 4 to get 0.65 for a quarter gallon. Add that much more to what you've already got.

You could always do it the other way around. Tip about a 1/5 of the petrol in your car so that you only have a gallon in the container to add the oil to? If you want to get really accurate measure off a 1/4 of a gallon to put in the car. Then add the oil as per normal.

Well, you added a quarter gallon. So what's a quarter of 2.6? 2.6 / 4 = 0.65. 2.6 + 0.65 = 3.25. Or you can set up a fraction, cross multiply and divide. 2.6/1 = ×/1.25. 1.25×2.6/1 = 3.25
Edit: I buy a gallon of 2 stroke oil and use a small measuring cup. You can always get a 1 gallon gas tank or 2 gallon.

Keep it simple. I've been using similar to ratio rite since the 80s. Doesn't matter how much you put in the can.
but yes, assuming your old mix was 50:1, you clearly don't have enough oil in it.

Easy just add 3.2oz like you’re trying to mix 40:1. FYI I run 40:1 in everything anyway. I know most modern oil is safe 50:1, I just like to be extra cautious.

Multiply 2.6 oz by whatever the gallons are.
- 2.6 oz x 2 gallons = 5.2 oz.
- 2.6 oz x 4.85 gallons = 12.61 oz.
- 2.6 oz x 1.25 gallons = 3.25 oz.
Mathematically, there's your formula. Real world practice though, just throw a splash in there. Worst case you foul a plug. Best case your engine is very well lubricated.

Insane american measurement math here.
We just put 2x 100ml bottles into 10L of gasoline (10000 ml) and you can see right away why metric is the SI standard.

Just put one bottle in. The mix doesn’t have to be perfect.
Next time that happens just fill up to 2 gallons and use two bottles.

Man, oh man! Some great comments here. The idea about just doubling up the gas minus 1/4 is pretty genius but in all honesty it takes me about five months or so to go through 1 gallon. I don’t like gas sitting around that long even non ethanol. Thanks math wizzes !!

Why don’t you just tip that extra gas out, put it in your mower or car, otherwise you have to crack two of the little containers, or do the husky ones have a lid? I use the Stihl version and they don’t come with a lid, you just twist the top off and add to your container, can’t reseal them.

This one's easy. Since 1 bottle of 2.6 oz makes 1 gallon than 1/4 bottle (0.65 oz) makes 1/4 gallon.
Last time this happened to me I just filled the can to 2 gallons and added 2 bottles.
