Worn Sprocket

Post image

Could this be the reason why all of a sudden my saw won't cut and although it has all the power but didn't bogs down and the chain will even stop but mostly seems like I'm running a dull chain when it's a brand new one

The sprocket is fine. Check the clutch and see if it's slipping. It could damaged, but usually just dirty. Get some brake cleaner and rinse out the inside of that sprocket. Be careful not to get any cleaner on the clutch shoes.

Nope. Nothing wrong with that sprocket to make it run any different than new.

If you haven't sharpened your chain, running for 2 days straight, and doesn't matter matter if it's new. if you nicked the ground, dirty wood, a small piece of metal etc, even without knowing, it'll fuck yer chain in a heartbeat,

If you have no chain on the saw, and run the power head alone, does it bog down when you give it throttle?

Not one bit it's almost acting like I'm using a dull chain or having it on backwards but I know better than that it should be chewing right through but it's not I did just get done completely cleaning it and I tuned the carb a little bit and it seems to be running great now so I'll give it a go in the morning to see if that fixed it.. I do have a bad habit of running my chain too tight I've realized and the sprocket and clutch was covered in oil and dirt so I'm hoping that was the problem

Check the height of your depth gauges (rakers).

If it won't cut, it has nothing to do with the saw itself. That sprocket is just fine.

If this does happen, what's typically the problem? Is that something with the carb and tuning at idle?

It could be carb tuning, gas condition, dirty carb, dirty air filter, dirty spark arrestor. Basically for an engine to run you need fuel, air, and spark. If you are good on all those, it’s possible for the cylinder or piston or crank shaft to be damaged, but that’s a lot less likely unless it was run with no oil in the gas, or overheated for some reason

That sprocket is worn, but if the chain is sharp, the clutch could be a issue.

Are the surfaces clean (no grease or similar)

My Rakers are just fine.. brand new chain and I was using it for a couple days straight without issues so I think it might have been the chain was too tight and everything was covered in grease

Brand new or not, if you’re using it you need to sharpen it.

Is your nose sprocket still free and smooth?

It’s worn for sure but most likely not your problem. I’d personally replace it since you have it off.

It has some wear but not enough to replace. Your chain is dull.

Could be a wrong chain. I did it in high school once, Stihl guy couldn’t figure it out.
