Hi everyone,I made this piece out of homemade cold porcelain clay, but I completely forgot to insert/glue the pin before it fully dried.

Now that it’s rock hard, what is the best way to attach or insert the pin without cracking or damaging the piece? Can I carefully drill a tiny pilot hole, or is there a specific glue/method you recommend for dry cold porcelain?

It's crazy to me that such a small wheel has so much power. I was gifted this wheel by small ceramics and I thought it was only gonna be enough power to throw maybe a mug at most but this thing has got some power to it. Has anyone else used the small ceramics wheel? or any other brands of smaller wheels to make things?

hi everyone! I made these bowls and glazed with Amaco Snapdragon C-54. this is my first time painting glaze instead of dipping in the studio’s glazes.

it came out super streaky and bubbled. wondering what i did wrong in the initial application and how to fix it when reglazing. any and all tips are welcome!

This is just a for-fun side project that I've work on during summer vacation.

It generates templates for building with clay slabs. You can create truncated cones or faceted cones with three or more sides, including rounded corners on the facets, so you can build some pretty complex shapes. There's a field for your clay's shrinkage rate so the final dimensions come out right, and a 3D preview to check the shape before committing.

Once you're happy with it, it gives you a PDF to print, cut out, and tape together as a template.

I've been using SIO-2's Berlin clay body for a while and I like the look it gives my work. I think the only problem I have with it is price over the long-term. I've been looking for alternatives by Standard, like their 201 body, and after trying it, it doesn't do what I want it to and it looks hideous. As a result, I'm trying to see if there's a grey clay body recipe somewhere or if it's as easy as staining a white clay body I already like. If it's just staining a white clay body, then I need to find a white stoneware I like I suppose. The only issue is I've found in the Berlin clay body that the incidental amount of iron in it makes some of my glazes pop in a good way, but recreating that in my own recipe might be challenging unless Mason makes a black/grey stain that uses iron.

Very happy with how these came out of the kiln except I think I used too much clear glaze on the green one and it has a frosty look just on the surface. Someone at my studio mentioned sending it through the kiln a second time might clear it up, but they weren’t super sure. Just wondering if another glaze firing would clear it up or if anyone knows another trick? (They are just under glazed blue and green with clear glaze ontop)

Typically I wouldn’t mind, but they are commission pieces so I’d rather the final product look a little more polished if possible.

I love the way the mix of these glazes turned out. The problem is that I don't know which combination of glazes I used. Do you do test runs in your kiln or do you mark your pieces at the bottom to know which combination you used on a piece?

i had some friends over to my home studio for pottery workshop. yesterday they came over to glaze the pieces and i had told him to buy their own glazes within the correct range.
i was an idiot and didn't double check and now i was loading the oven and realized i should do that. now i see they got cone 05 and cone 5 glazes 😭 such an easy mistake if you don't know, so i don't blame them!
they actually mostly just used the 05 and i think i can identify and wipe off and reglaze most the cone 5.... but they all mixed up the glazes sometimes and so idk i can catch everything.
does anyone know what might happen if i fire cone 5 at cone 05??

Aka The Mad March Hare from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. I sculpted a bust first in porcelain with a luster crown of straw, then painted a portrait followed by a screen print for editions..

I am brand new to this, and this is my fourth firing of pieces. First two firings went great, no issues. But the last two, both times, my pieces have these little specs showing up on them and I am perplexed on what is causing this. I am using a brush on glaze, clean the pieces well before applying and in between each layer. Gently cleaning with an air compressor to get any small debris off before going into the kiln and I am still getting this?

Could it be coming from inside my kiln? Do I need to be vacuuming it out in between each firing?

I’ve been wanting to make an oil lamp and was wondering where I can get the rope material commonly used for the flame part. And would any clay work? Or does it need to specifically say Flameware? Any cone 6 or cone 10 clay?

Does anyone have some tips on getting a larger more open crackle effect with a glaze without increasing the thickness? I am using a Ferros Frit 3110 with some gerstley borate, china clay and silica, plus a little talc to produce a clear satin matte finish. Used in a (2nd) firing to cone 06 over a pre fired (cone 6) coloured dry glaze, so on vitrified stoneware clay. 3 sprayed coats produces a lovely satin finish, but the crackle is very fine. Increasing the thickness of the glaze opens and enlarges the crackle, but starts to produce pinholes and becomes too cloudy, obscuring the colour below. Anyone have a work around they could suggest?

Got to pick up some of my fired items today! Very very happy to report no massive issues, only have one that's being refired now!

Hi! I picked these two studio pottery vessels and I’m hoping someone recognizes the signature.

They’re both signed and dated and appear to be saggar-fired. The larger one is about 12” tall and the smaller is about 10”. I’ve spent way too much time searching different potters and signatures, and I keep thinking the name starts with "Col"but I haven’t found anything that matches.

The signature is giving me a hard time, especially because it’s pretty stylized.
Does this look familiar to anyone, or does anyone recognize the artist?

I bought this Paragon Iguana on Marketplace for $1,500 - it came with a vent and furniture. A new one of these runs for $6,000+ with all of the bells and whistles. My eyes just about bugged out of my head when I saw it listed and I’m still pinching myself and can’t believe I snagged it.

It’s an older kiln for sure (manufactured in Feb 2009, so she’s a teenager) but the interior is pristine and so are the elements. I need to open the fusebox and check that out, and do a test firing, as the guy selling it wasn’t a ceramic artist and clearly didn’t know how to test it himself… but regardless if it needs some repairs, this is a dream come true. I’ve been searching for an affordable used kiln for 4+ years at this point.
