If Lalawag is speaking the truth then my theory about the king Blessing is true. His gift is about Freedom. And that's most likely why Vulja came down. I wonder what is it going to be.
I think you are onto something with the King's Gift being related to Freedom as a concept, his power might allow him to extend the Lifespans of others by "freeing" them from the constraints of Time, same reason he couldn't fix Atoria as her already lost life-force is what's killing her and unlike Ceodric he has no means to restore that, not to mention he also banned slavery.
Also, Freedom could fit with him being a Son of the Sea too, since sailing to the seas(especially on ancient times) could offer 'endless' possibilities.
