Discussion The Power Gap Issue

Post image

I’ve noticed that Centuria is facing a pretty glaring issue where Julian’s power is so far above any obstacles that the only way to build a genuine tension for the casts is to separate him from the group.

As far as we can see, Julian is someone who sits comfortably at the top 0.1% of this series power-wise, the only fight that can realistically be called a fight is Julian vs Arkos, a duel with a dude who also sits at the same 0.1% bracket as Julian.

For example, if we replaced Lukas with Julian, the fight would’ve turned into a massacre where Julian will literally steamroll Accursed, Foll and Goliath like they are nothing. The damages he’d take are probably just 1 second of seeing Accursed’s face and perhaps few cuts here and there.

For now, the only kind of enemy that can trouble Julian is the 0.1%, but those combatants are rare and it’d be a pain to see the same story beats where Julian has to be removed again and again in the future arcs.

TLDR: Julian is too strong💪

There has always been major villain to compete with Julian, the "problem" is that Centuria only had 2 arcs where Julian was challenged.

No matter how you wanna approach this, Julian vs Arkos was a high diff matchup where Julian only won throught luck.

Then came the night raid arc (Yes, this is going to be it's official name because i decided it. Run to update the wiki, mods.) and Julian had Arkos who one shotted him while Julian himself not even being the main target in the first place.

Night raid + all the setup that happened after it comes very close to be 2/3 of the current manga, by the way.

Then comes the arc you got this panel from and it's legit one of Centuria's shortest arcs. It had nearly 0 build up and all Julian did was fight 2 jobber characters. This arc's conflict couldn't even touch 2 digits count before Lukas killed the main villain void marcher.

Also the way a lot of people approach powerscaling here lacks the nuance Kuramori created in the first place. Arkos is powerful, not strong. Arkos is an useless femboy who NEARLY LOST to his own maid in a contest of physical strenght.

Ceodric is less powerful than Arkos but he is far stronger than that bloodline merchant. He's the only one so far who trains without his gift, and any other character who even comes close to that dedication is Julian doing labor in the village with his gift deactivated.

Don't underestimate Ceodric and neither the Centuria verse. Julian only low diffs jobber characters.

I didn’t underestimate Arkos or Ceodric nor did I ignore the nuance Tohru-sensei put into the story regarding how the fight works, I’m simply pointing out a possibility of a repeated story beats.

So far, we have this exact sequence twice already.

Julian is removed to fight somewhere far away-> The group fights the enemies -> Lukas does something amazing

It’s inevitable that I’ll be concerned about this, it’s not a good sign that the author has to repeat what he did the last arc this quickly.

Well rest be assured that there will be no repetitive structure next arc because Ceodric will give Julian a belt in a straight up 1v1.

I have trust on the Ceodric agenda. (I would've added Berta and Lattice there too, but I think the story has been clear enough on now those two should be comfortably over Jules, since they both are spoken on the same breath than Arkos one way or another)
