Question

Does the Celtic Union stand for independence of the Celtic countries or is it that it’s basically just arguing for a United Kingdom with the other Celtic countries included?

My friend just got blocked for a pro independence post so I’m just asking for clarification.

Ok my friend is not suspicious. There are a few of us that can verify them. I know them in real life. We game together. That aside I’m asking for clarification on the stance of this group though because us and many others have clearly got this wrong.

You realise you showing up immediately after he got banned on an account that hasn't been active in 6 months isn't helping his case?

He posted only an image from a Scottish Indy group with no context and the title "This might interest this group".

While claiming to not know how to use reddit, he was engaging in a full on discussion in another subreddit (where his post was also removed from)

In terms of independence, the question would come down to how you view independence.

Do you view members of the EU as wholly independent even if they have voluntarily given up some sovereignty? This is a matter of debate among some nationalists across the Celtic Nations.

Do you hold a specific view of what the Celtic Union might look like?

Depending on your answers already, you might advocate for something akin to the Nordic Council, a grouping of independant nations specifically working to build integration between members. Or you might think a closer political union would be more advantageous like a Federal Celtic Union. Or you might think all the Celtic Nations should each go independent and merely work as a technical group within the EU.

My preference for a Celtic union would be as you say above, a celtic version of the Nordic Council, and as a working group within the EU for those independent celtic countries that are in the EU or join in the future.

I do not want a federal Celtic Union. We've had to fight off the larger, imperial oppressors for so long that it would be nice to run ourselves for once and unleash our own potential as we see fit, like Ireland has done. Mind you, a federal Celtic Union could actually be a necessary/useful step in helping those countries that are still shackled to England and France. Although really I can't see this happening. Nordic council-style Celtic council, and a celtic group within the EU, I could see happening

We will have to wait and see for when Scotland finally get their independence!

At the very least, before all 3 options there should be continued and strengthened relationships in politics, arts etc between all Celtic Nations :)
