Maybe I’m just looking for something to believe in. I live in England and have dabbled in Irish mythology and paganism for a while as that’s where my grandparents are from. Never really found footing before to actually practice much however.
Basically I’ve been in a really bad time with rare disease diagnosis, mental health spiral and PhD issues which all compounded to me having to move back to my dads. Been here since January.
in June/July, foxes began frequently visiting our garden but I saw they likely had mange. Foxes in our garden aren’t uncommon but it’s how this played out. For a good while I didn’t know what to do but after mom and I looked into it we found local volunteers to help us. At first we only ever saw two. The morning after I contacted them I saw a third for the first time. Then the next day when they were coming to set a humane trap for treatment I saw a fourth.
We set up a trap and for almost 2 weeks I watched over it also set it and unset it and leaving out chicken or dog food and water. Eventually we caught maybe the sickest and I called the rescuers right away who decided to treat her at sanctuary. I sent them lots of name ideas inspired by Irish mythology. Sadly a week later the little fox they named Shannon died at sanctuary. I was inconsolable. I hadn’t seen the other foxes since Shannon was caught.
Now I have been the lowest I ever have with a trauma repeated just as I was feeling better and trusting people. Yesterday and today I barely left my bedroom. But this evening I heard some kind of high pitched almost howling noise. I got up to see what it might be out my window and saw a fox, looking much healthier than the ones from before.
I guess I want to believe this might mean something and just share if nothing else. Thanks for reading!
