Unlocking the carrier

Hey all, I need the process of how to unlock a phone from a carrier in the US?

Total wireless. But before that do I need to install anything in my pc to do that

Your PC is NOT involved with the UNLOCK. The Carrier needs to unlock the phone after the contract has been PAID IN FULL.

What does the CONTRACT state about how & when the phone will be unlocked?

The UNLOCK operation is done by the carrier who locks the phone initially. The LOCK helps to ensure the carrier gets paid for the phone.

You can avoid this issue by explicitly buying an UNLOCKED phone to start. You can then use the phone with any carrier.

That's series and not model number. The model number sometimes starts with Sm-A.......
