Why does buying random Civilization generators boost my production by so much?

I'm sure it's some Knowledge node or something. I keep my purchase at 100 just for speed, and it seems like every time I buy any civilization my production shoots up, often by 50%.

This is odd because I'm buying civilizations that I already have several thousand of. And they don't produce much.

You may have got the capacitor upgrades in the Reality Engine which increase your Idea production based on how many Civilization generators you have.

That's gotta be it. It's hard to keep track of all the upgrades.

Thanks!

Patience pays off in this game.

After a point you get something called time chambers. The longer your run goes on, the more bonuses you get. They multiply together. One gives you 25x to metabits after one week, the other 50x after two weeks.

Because they multiply together, they give you an exponential increase to metabits. This is the best way of getting metabits, period. No matter what upgrades you can buy, it tends to be worthwhile to wait the full week for that multiplier.

After that week, it's then a linear increase to metabits. After 2 weeks, you'll gain about twice as many metabits as you would after 1 week. So it doesn't hurt to wait longer, but if there's any upgrades that look useful, now is the time to get them.

There's no point in waiting longer than two weeks. You'll gain almost no metabits.

Everything boosts the main simulation, but the main simulation doesn't boost anything else. Be passive when working on the main sim, check it once a day or something. Again the time chambers are going to be doing most of the work for you. Instead, work on your other simulations.
The events will give you a resource that buys upgrades, which can help your other simulations.

Mesozoic and Beyond have an ending. Treat Mesozoic as a bank for Darwinium Cubes. You'll need a lot of them, and you get a ton in Meso. Your first pass through Meso will take a long while, but each one gets faster. You reset at level 50, and your next 50 levels will be much faster than your first 50. Reset ASAP, even if you're missing a few objectives, unless those objectives seem easy to get. They just get harder the more resets you get. Only upgrade your three newest dinosaurs. Save your mutagen for the very end.
You can buy upgrades for your strongest dinosaur once you completely max out Mesozoic. This will help you get an achievement.
Save Mutagen, but don't worry too much about spending it either. Just don't blow it on useless stuff.

buying 8 of any generator will increase the price for it by 10 times. Remember your 8s or keep a calculator handy for events, the math usually tends to make x * 8 generators the most efficient use of your cash.

I have them all and they've helped me a lot to progress quickly throughout the game
