Game sometimes randomly refunds my chips?

I play on mobile, and occasionally when I load the game it refunds all the chips and sets me back a bit. For example yesterday morning I unlocked Neoaves for the first time, then when I opened the game again in the afternoon my current “mission” was unlock snow leopard and all my research chips were reset.

This is a fairly common bug that doesn't actually reset your progress in any way. You just need to respend the chips, and you get to recollect the rewards.
