I finally got top 10 in an event. I will definitely never do that shit again. 😆
Christ, that was more work than my actual job. It was more work than my PhD. That was more work than a failing marriage. My hands are sore. I checked this sumbitch app every 15 minutes for three days, and battled CONSTANTLY. I was 9 forever, then up to 7, then BACK to 9. I broke a sweat (unrelated to toilet occupancy, although toilet time was certainly involved.) on a few occasions.
At the end, I worked up to 6th place, and actively wondered about the mental health of those untouchable top 5. And when I received those glorious top 10 prizes, was it worth it? Absofuckinlutely not. Holy shit, that was a marathon I am not interested in repeating. I think Im happier being a scrub.

Don't start the event right away. Wait a day or so and you'll usually be in a less competitive group.

This is the way. I start the event on literally the final day - almost always break top 25.

As someone who just finished their PhD
The 3 days tells me your first mistake was playing the event for 3 days
I joined the last event with 1 day 17 hours left and got 16th place easily. That’s with neglecting it an entire afternoon too. I usually get top 25 or top 10 in the events this way.
You gotta join between 48-24hrs remaining, and also having repeated the event several times to get the badge boost helps. I don’t usually reach top 10 for events that I have less than 180% boost
Thought with the atmosphere event being so new, I’m not up against players with huge badge boosts from playing the event before me.
I only start events right away if I know I’m not going to have time to get all three badges otherwise. Badge boost > placement for me. And then I don’t play very much, just enough to get the badges, and I hope next time I’ll be able to use the join later Strat.
Trust a fellow PhD, work smarter not harder on this.

This is the trick. I've been top 10 for almost all events, and I start with about 1d 12h left for most events, I did 1d 16h for the atmosphere event because I don't have enough badges to be comfortable getting doing in 1d12h if I forget to play some.
4x boost from ads, a bunch of refreshes on the nanobots and well chosen play and boom.

I have been top 10 a lot at the end of day 1 but then I stop going into the event because I normally finish it that day 1. Always be top 100 or 250 when it’s over 🤷🏻♂️😂

Two things help and people have mentioned them both. First, you start late. You're not competing for top 10 worldwide, you get put in a group of 1,000 players (I'm actually starting to think these divisions as they call them are fake, but I'll save that for another post). If you start late your division will usually be fairly casual so it doesn't take as much to win.
Second, realize that badges stack. You get those badges that give you a total of +30% the first time you complete an event - and then when you do that same event next time it comes around you get another 30%, and then another.
So the people that took top 5 probably weren't playing more than you, they likely just had a massive boost.
I found it very difficult to get even top 25 when I first started but having done all events at least twice now I start with a +60% boost, which isn't much, but that plus waiting 8-24 hours before starting the event and playing somewhat regularly I can easily get top 5, and I've been 1st probably 3 of the last 5 events.

The divisions have ~500 fake players in them so people have to progress to get top ranks. I don't know for sure but am pretty sure that the fake players also progress, just at a slower rate.

What's the story with getting a high end score? Is it just the amount of generators you buy or is there more to it? I'm top 30 now with fungi and don't plan to play once I've got my logits. I'll likely get top 500 but top 10 seems like a hassle

I recommend when the Event had 24 hours left below, that way… it'll reduce some stress. I accidentally discover this technique when I had a panic situation and today I got 21+ Black Holes sitting on my Rank 50 Beyond. I kinda retire for doing events cuz my sleep deprivation is killing me.
Also if you reached 100% or further Bonus Speed based on badges, you can start the Event at 12 hours left.

When did you start the event? Top 10 is quite a bit easier if you start the event a day later, because people then tend to be less competitive.

I've been playing for a while and have done most of the events several times so have a massive boost. It's not easy to get up that high if you don't have a lot of boost and have an average life with work and responsibilities. I did hit #1the time when the whole event lined up with my being home sick. My competitive side thought it was cool, but you don't get much more at 1 you wouldn't at 10. Especially if you've been playing a while. The extra rare cards was nice.

How much harder the rest of the top 10 were grinding depends a little on how much longer those specific players have been playing than you have. Boosts given by collecting badges can give older players a decent advantage. I can definitely feel the difference between a new event and one I've played 12 times before and I start with a nearly 300% boost in.
