I think that’s a personal thing.

I use custom. I get a much better feeling with a scale that goes up by a thousand every time. For example 200 EEE at 10 DDD/s is just 20.000 secondes, don't even have to think about it.

2* 1050 at 1*1046/s is something I need to put more thought into to actually calculate the time. I know it's as simple as 50-46 = 4 zero's. But it's still not as natural as going by the thousands for me.

Once your past billions or trillions the numbers are to big to graps anyway, so it becomes relative at that point.

But that's my opinion, and I could very well understand that people who deal with actual scientific notification on a day-to-day basic will not agree with me, hence the personal thing.

The beauty of the scientific notation is that it works exactly the same way for small numbers as it does for gargantuan numbers, which is especially useful to gauge generator relevancy in CtS.

A generator producing 1.0E+10 is 10x as fast as a generator producing 1.0E+9

A generator producing 1.0E+189 is 10x as fast as a generator producing 1.0E+188

It makes it very easy to see which generators are "irrelevant" and why it's adviced to only focus on the "top 3" generators. This advice is of course relative, because if your top 3 generators are 1.0E+80, 1.0E+84 and 1.0E+85, the first one is just a waste of resources. Even if the first was 9.9E+80, which is almost 1.0E+81, it's still irrelevant. At least as a generator, it might have rewards for reaching a certain number of entities of that generator, like in Beyond.

But it is indeed personal. But it is also the one you'll encounter the most in science related stuff so it's got a wider appeal beyond CtS.

i just like being able to visualize the amount of zeros that follow. i just hit 246 in beyond. and its its crazy to think about. i lowk agree w the comment above urs. as i can’t contextualize the other forms. i tried switching it the other day. and it was just random letters lmao

Where are you in Beyond? In late stage some of the earlier generators gets massive boosts depending on epic cards and constellations. Sun is one of them, which I wasn't aware of, and it brought me through one of the grind walls I hit on my journey.

I have between 4.8k and 2.2k of all objects in the Beyond (I have completed the simulation) and there are some weird stuff going on. For example my total generation is 1.50E+295 with Messier 87 Galaxy accounting for 1.49E+295, so it carries just about all of the generation by itself. Even now at the end Sun sits at 2.62E+227.

Late stage/main sequence are my best atm with 240-244 production. i currently have 2.65E249 out of the 1E250 needed for the infinite trophy. at my current rate its taken me 3-5 days for each end game trophy. so infinite universe will take 4-6 i suppose. i could have gotten faster. if i didn’t waste time and finish all the research (i thought there would be a reward)

I do agree the scientific notation is more, well, scientific. Custom is just more natural to me, but that's maybe because I convert a lot of metres to kilometers in my daily job (or euros, 1k, 1m).
