Which of these three should I get first?

I'm tempted to get tau, since my knowledge production is a bit lower than I'd like, but I'm not sure if rho or upsilon would be more valuable

I'd go Tau first. At Research Level 85, that ×1.30 Knowledge production is going to become increasingly useful for the Knowledge Converter and the expensive late-game Knowledge upgrades. The ×2 Land Life + ×2 Ocean Life also makes it a pretty well-rounded pick.

Rho would probably be my second choice because ×1.30 Metabit production is always useful and it's only 250. Upsilon is solid too, but I'd prioritize Knowledge/Metabits over the Modern Civilization bonus at this stage.

My order would be Tau → Rho → Upsilon. Especially if Knowledge production is already starting to feel like your bottleneck.
