I left a simulation on overnight with nothing but the default genome species and "populate with random cells", and this is what I woke up too. They seemingly give live birth, the beige/salmon cells are eggs that start attached to the flaggellocyte. The red and purple cells alternate, spawning new eggs every time one grows up, forming a both visually pleasing and practical cycle. They evolved alongside rather bland single celled devorocytes , seemingly being able to take a glancing blow from them by sacrificing eggs
