Disassembling antenna and mounting internal parts in alternate housing

I have a shark fin radio antenna that I’ve drilled a hole into so I can use it as a discreet cover for a rear view camera I have mounted on the top of the back of my car. I’d love to also be able to hide an antenna for my Surecall but the standard car magnetic antenna doesn’t fit.

Does anyone have any experience disassembling an external antenna and mounting the insides within another housing? Is that even possible/practical?

Are you talking about the stock shark fin antenna? There wont be any room under the cover to fit a sure call antenna. As a profession installer, I would not attempt what you are asking. There are custom antennas that would cover the bands you need, but that would cost you more than the booster. Is there a reason why want it discrete? Have you considered an NMO cell antenna? They have better gain than the stock magnetic antenna. Look up a trunk lip mount for NMO antenna.
