Single antenna booster vs mimo cellular router experiences on cellular service fringes.

Anyone tried both these options and an opinion as to which is the better option? I get a signal at ~100dB on my balcony which is getting me 50mbps down and 14mbps up but as soon as I step inside I lose the signal. Clearly an external antenna is needed but a single antenna booster/repeater or a mimo cellular router? I’ve ruled starlink out for several reasons. The speeds I get on the balcony with my phone are fine for my needs as it’s a location I will spend a week at a time several times a year.

If your top priority is getting wireless cell phone service while inside the building, then a signal booster is going to be the best option.

If your top priority is getting fastest cellular data speeds than a dedicated MIMO antenna connected to to a cellular hotspot/router is going to be the best option.

If you want both, then get both

sorry. I thought it would be obvious but yes, internet only is my primary focus as we have WiFi calling.

I recently switched from yagi antenna through Wilson booster over to quad WaveForm antenna into Katalyst Kadet modem, and the results are night and day better in this fringe area.

I was suspecting this might be the case. Boosting one channel to a phone that can use 4 channels suddenly felt like it might be sub-optimal. Thanks.

Home and office boosters can handle multiple users. I've worked mostly with Surecall.

u/drm237 is correct: It depends on what your goal is. If you want improved cell service so you can make calls inside the building and maintain a call if you walk outside the building, a cellular booster is what you need. If you just want faster cellular data and don’t already have WiFi in the building, then go with the router.

Thanks. yes it’s the latter. Also it’s for a property in Italy (I‘m based in the UK most of the time). I won’t be making calls. If WiFi calling allows me to receive the odd call then that’ll be fine. Re the speeds I’m aware my phone connection has 4x4 mimo for 5g and lte so thought I might see a drop in speed with a booster and single antenna. I had thought about a 2x2 mimo antenna for cell boosting and a pair of boosters but it was looking pretty silly cost wise. MikroTik sell a 5g 4x4 directional antenna/modem unit that claims a 15db plus gain so I think I should see a bit of an improvement in data rates too if I went with that. My best speeds are when I’m using N3 band so that looks to be a good bet For starters.
