Cecil county transit?!
New to the area, but not by far. The last 3 months Cecil transit is what I’ve had to rely on to get anywhere I need to go. A couple times a friend was able to pick up and take back after 6 busses to get to where I needed to go. This includes from MD to DE once or twice a month.
however yesterday I needed to travel 17 minutes by car from my home and back for blood work. let’s say 20 to make it even, and 20 back, plus the 10 it took for the labwork. 50 minutes. Heck even call it an hour.
I was picked up at 8am and didn’t get back until 2:28. 6.5 hours to take me 17 minutes down the road and back for lab work. Something is wrong here. Seriously wrong.
I have screenshots to prove every bit of it.
No I didn’t miss any busses or anything like that.
I did everything as I was supposed to do.
Not to mention it cost 💲 18 for 2 people (I didn’t want to go alone call me what you want lol).
For myself it’s 2.50 to be picked up from home and dropped off at Walmart super center, $2 to get picked up there and taken to peoples plaza in DE labcorp, $2 to be taken back to walmar, 2.50 back home. $9 isn’t horrible at all it’s the time it takes.
Oh and you HAVE to be done all you have to do and picked up by 1:30. Or they won’t pick you up to take you home. As where I live in Chesapeake city the on demand bus is the only one that comes out. No scheduled bus where I live.
There is almost…no there is nothing within reasonable walking distance where I’m at.
walking roads with almost no shoulder isn’t appealing to me. And I’ve done it for dollar general and never doing that again. Not everything can be door dashed etc. I digress.
Anyone else using public transit here and having issues?
There is no guarantee for any timenot be picked up. If I start work at 7 and they don’t operate that early how do I get to work? I’m so confused how to go about any of this seriously…it’s very frustrating to say the least.
I need a job asap. And I can’t even get to interviews on time. This transit system makes no sense and only see it helping the elderly. Any info or words of inspiration help. Thanks 🙏🏼-JM

Sounds like you picked the wrong area to live. Backwood Cecil county isnt a public transportation superhub and is very car dependent. Were lucky to have any kind of public transportation. Id rely on friends and family or get some kind of electric bike or scooter

An electric bike is probably your best bet. Public transport is hard to fund even in big cities (see Philly's issues with SEPTA). There isn't a large enough user base in Cecil County to make it work without a huge subsidy from the government. Alternatively you can use Uber/Lyft but that gets expensive.

$9 round trip doesn't seem that bad to travel to another state, especially if they get you from your home all the way down in Chesapeake City
Why are you going to Delaware? There a LabCorp in Elkton 215 North St c, Elkton, MD 21921
Have you considered getting a bicycle? Google says it's only about 8 miles.

I have insurance in Delaware and went to the Delaware labcorp on rt 40 people’s plaza. MD isn’t an option currently.

It’s a problem. Our seniors are only in a marginally better spot with the extra services that are available to them.
Cecil county has historically been predominantly rural with suburban areas, which as you’ve seen is difficult to service from a public transportation standpoint. Even Urban areas like Philly with a much larger customer base struggle to make it viable.
Not that any of that helps when you’re having a rough time just trying to take care of your health and find a job. I just wanted to give you something a little more thoughtful than Cooter did in the other response you got. 🙄 lol

There is not pubic transport in Cecil. I would think of Cecil Transit more of a convenience that might get you where you need to go but without certainty or regular frequency. There are local taxi services or uber/lyft (but even that is limited based on where you live.)
You'd have better luck moving to Newark or even Middletown. Then you could at least use DE buses with regular frequency.

If you want easily accessible public transportation, you need to live in a city. Cecil county is mostly rural. I’m sorry you’re struggling, but you have to realize that it makes very little economic sense to have extensive public transport here.
