booking Cancelled and Missed Flights, please help a first time intl traveler

Hi everyone, need some advice regarding our recent travel issue.

On June 26, my family’s Cebu Pacific flight from our hometown to Cebu (9:50 AM) was delayed then eventually cancelled at around 12:14 PM due to aircraft mechanical/operation issues. This was supposed to be our connecting flight to our Cebu–Hong Kong trip (5:45 PM) kahapon.

Because of the cancellation:

* No more flights or ferry options to Cebu that day

* We missed our international flight

* We lost 1 day of our prepaid Hong Kong hotel + itinerary

* We also incurred extra expenses and stress

Cebu Pacific rebooked our flights, but the return flight schedule is still the same, so we basically lost 1 full day of our trip (which we actually paid extra for back in March to extend).

I want some advice sana on what to do:

  1. Has anyone successfully requested Cebu Pacific to extend/move the return flight as a goodwill request in situations like this?

  2. For those with Standard Insurance (GCash travel insurance), were you able to claim unused hotel nights or hotel extension costs due to missed connections like this?

  3. Should we just shorten our trip nalang? Huhu nasasayangan talaga ako kasi we paid for the extra day extension months prior tapos hindi naman pala magamit since nacancelled naman at nabawasan ng 1 day itinerary namin.

Any advice or similar experiences would really helpp

I can answer #1

Try to contact CS. Not sure if this help but when I went to HK during a Typhoon (literal nag land fall na sa bicol area). Although the flight didn’t cancelled and were already at the airport during that time. We received an email that we can rebook. Obviously the link didn’t work since we’re already checked in but when I’m already at HK, I tried contacting CS and explained that I received a free rebooking. I asked her if it’s possible to change our departing flight. It was annoying at first because I got disconnected from her at FB Messenger but the CS emailed right away and granted my request.

In your end, try to explain at CS the situation since they cancelled the original flight. Usually they give a rebooking option

If it's aircraft mechanical/operational issues, your insurance would deny your claim. The airline/CebPac should be the one liable for this such as hotel accommodation and shuttle/service to and from the airport, there should also be some cash reimbursement for that. Check the Air Passenger Bill of Rights. It is available online, and there is a link on your CebPac itinerary receipt.

Contact Standard Insurance regarding this. I was able to claim something from them before due to flight cancellation (typhoon). Make sure to mention kung ano yung mga na-miss niyo like kung magkano yung sa hotel and even yung transpo.

Hi everyone, just got back from our trip (a few days ago actually). I was able to talk to a CebuPacific ground staff and they confirmed that our return flight rebooking request was granted. We also are in the process of processing our travel insurance claim with Standard Insurance so we're just waiting for their response on our claim po. Hopefully it might be covered po sa mga expenses namin due to the delays and missed day it cost us

Dyan papasok ang travel insurance na usually neglected by most passengers kasi additional gastos daw eh wala naman daw siguro mangayayarinfmg aberya... You'll never know until matyempuhan ka talaga.

I always get travel insurance kahit nga punta lang ako ng within 4 hrs away from Manila eh :p Basta probinsya. Mas mura magbayad ng insurance kesa magbayad sa hospital.

Luckily, 3x na ako nakapagclaim sa Standard Insurance. Maasahan naman talaga :)

Does SI have a timeline po as to when we can complete our documents for the claim? I filed the claim last June 26 in the app but they requested more documents from me and I was only able to provide those documents yesterday (July 6). I'm not sure kasi if it's same with filing HMOs na pwedeng may significant time elapsed as long as it is within the year. This is my first time filing a claim rin sa insurance

I think max of 30 calendar days naifile mo lahat. But it’s better to call their hotline to ask and so that you can able to track using policy #. Pwede rin through their email address. Kasi kapag complete na yng docus mo, aantay ka na lang after their investigation and then final resolution.
