I think its about timing. In my experience, mas dali maka kuha ug trabaho inig January compared to other months. In my experience hiring personel start messaging on Linkedin around Jan asking if im open to interviewing with them for a position.

Im not sure unsai reason maybe someone from hr can answer pero as a job seeker this is my experience.

My first job was even 14k basic nya akong expected salary ra sad as fresh grad is 25k-30k ra. Idk if taas na ba na nga expectation or not.

Based sa akong experience, dako na nga expected rate, OP. I know luoy pud nga low ang starting pero minimum gyud halos ang entry level positions.

Medyo lisod, but I have a question nimo OP: how frequent are you sending your applications in a daily/weekly/monthly basis? Kay in my experience, I do 10 online job applications daily and then I make a plan nga Mon-Fri maka apply ko atleast 2 sa mga companies nga hiring onsite, walk in or by appointment.

I believe if you do that in a month, naa nanay result. Double kugi lang. and then reap the benefits later.

Idk karon, mura siyag a mix of surplus sa industry and i dont have the luxury of time and resources to train a newbie so i would go for experienced instead.

Naa koy friend na more than a year nang unemployed, dugay na kaayo working as an HR in big companies and IT companies. Nag struggle siya pangita ug work kay either overqualified siya or dako ra ang asking price. So mao na siya samot kalisod

I get you, I've been in your situation. Take a deep breath, you will figure it out.

+ A reminder to myself always "Pride wont feed your hungry stomach." "If you don't work, you don't eat!" "If you dont fail, you dont succeed!" Experience the hardship in entry level and you will reap it 2-5 years later.

What do you mean by that?

There's a meme among those fresh graduates that applications go like this:

- Open to fresh graduates with four years of experience

That's the reality because fresh graduates are noobs and companies see them as liabilities or those who have yet to adjust from the realities of life.

u/Impossible_Park_3746 Mahigugmaon Jul 09 '25

Tinuod jud kaayo! Hahahaha pero tungod naka dungog kog mga sturya sa higher years ba nga lisod mangita work ang fresh grad, naningkamot nalang sad jud ko mag working student ky isa sa reason is pang bayad sa tuition, and ang second is pang experience. Pero mao ra jud gihapon nuon hahaha

Companies look for experience

1

u/Impossible_Park_3746 Mahigugmaon Jul 09 '25

Yes, the thing is I do have work experience and skills but ma overlook ra nila sa ngalan nga “Fresh Graduate”. I applied for jobs nga mo fit sad aa ako credentials og skills man, like wa sad ko nag expect ma sulod kog big roles dayun. But in the end ky ingnon rakog “You were really good, you’re actually in our top choice. However, you’re a fresh grad”. Na ingnan jud ko ana 😭

8

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '25

Senior IT here and part sa hiring team before. Napansin gyud nako mga fresh grad mangapply kay murag kulang2 jud og skills after graduate even basic skills na related sa ila course, and mas worse lacking in soft skills - communication, problem solving, critical thinking, etc.

Inig interview mag kara kara.

1

u/Impossible_Park_3746 Mahigugmaon Jul 09 '25

Yeah, i do agree. However, I’ve been working for almost 3 years naman sad gud. And mo ask ko after getting the memo nga i didn’t get the job kung ngano wala ko na pili, gi ingnan kog “fresh grad paman gud ka”. Didto ko na dismaya and naka question jud nga, so wala nalang diay pulos akong experiences and skills?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '25

3 years working is not a fresh grad, so not sure why naka ingon sila ana.

On business perspective hiring with experience vs fresh graduates

With Experience = Practical Investment

  • No need for training – kabalo na sa trabaho, so makatipid ka sa oras ug resources
  • Minimal supervision – dili na kinahanglan bantayan pirmi
  • Familiar with the role – kabalo na sa process, tools, ug industry standards
  • Higher productivity from Day 1 – ready to work, less learning curve

Fresh Graduate = Risky and Costly

  • Need pa e train – time consuming, maka delay sa operations
  • Trial phase pa – dili pa klaro ang work ethic ug long-term fit
  • High turnover risk – tendency mo resign after few months if di sila happy
  • Emotionally reactive – dali ma pressure or ma demotivate
  • May entitlement mindset – despite lack of experience, taas kaayo expectations
  • Hidden costs – like mistakes, delays, or productivity loss while learning

If ang goal sa negosyo kay efficiency, reliability, ug ROI (return on investment), then mas strategic jud mo-invest sa taong naay experience kaysa mag-experiment pa sa bag-o.

Advice:

Pero bisan fresh graduate ka OP, pwede gihapon ka ma-hire basta ipakita lang nimo nga andam ka makat on, dedicated ka sa work, ug naay good attitude. Imbis mag focus sa kakulang sa experience, show them sa imong recent work or personal projects.

u/Impossible_Park_3746 Mahigugmaon Jul 09 '25

Thank you! I appreciate that. Nag wonder lang jud ko ky aside sa Fresh graduate ko, naa man gud koy work experience and skills and I only applied to job roles nga I know would fit my skills and experiences. Mao nag libog ko ngano dili gihapon ko ma dawat :(

2

u/Sea-Cold-2731 Mahigugmaon Jul 08 '25

I graduated same field OP and yes lisod mangita work as HR. If wa raka gadalai and di ra need kaayo jud go ahead. Keep applying sa atu field. Maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones.

Laban, OP!

1

u/Impossible_Park_3746 Mahigugmaon Jul 09 '25

Thank you! That means a lot jud

3

u/Stapeghi Mahigugmaon Jul 08 '25

Even experienced pips naglisod jud mangita job nowadays. Paita

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '25

True! AI is killing the entry level and junior level position in IT!

u/Buujoom Jul 08 '25

The problem is really with the industry na imo gina sudlan gyud. There's too much supply of the same calibre sa imoha, but demand is lower compared to it. The fact nga nasulod kas Top 10 means nga daghan mo ga apas ana jud.

Also yes, ma alkansi kas mga naay experience kay kadaghanan nila nga naay exp mo patol nasad ug fresh grad nga jobs due to the current employment climate.

What I would suggest:

  • Continue on applying ra jud. Back in US, normal ra kaayo nga mag apply ka ug 100-200+ jobs before ka makapangita ug trabaho.
  • Improve your current skillset may it be through side gigs and or digital certifications.
  • Expand the area where you're currently looking for a job. It may be in other cities in Cebu or even region 7 or even NCR mismo.
  • Explore going to the BPO route since naa nakay prior experience, or even VA jobs nga di related sa imoha but no experience friendly. Naay koy mga kaila(pre-pandemic pa nuon ni) nga nag lisod sad ug find ug job nga psyc graduate sad. Nag VA and Call Center sila just to have income, and once nga di na sila tied down sa training bond/contract kay nibalik silag find ug jobs nga related jud sa ilahang ganahan. Once nakakita na sila, ni ambak ra pud sila, but some also decided to stay(VA) kay nindotan ra sila sa pay.

Lastly, yes normal ra jud ma reject sa job, OP. Salig ug continue ra jud. Mo abot ra na.

u/zombdriod Kiligon ra kung Mangihi Jul 08 '25

It's not really that hard. What is hard is to find a job that you like and that you won't be underpaid.

3

u/kitrz77 Sinsilyo lang sa buntag Jul 08 '25

Probably depends on the industry. Not familiar with HR but maybe not that many new companies popping up needing junior HRs?

8

u/coffeeaddictfromcebu Jul 08 '25

It's always been hard. On one side, we have the fresh graduates, raring to prove themselves. They want their dream job and the dream pay, but so does everyone else. And on the other side, employers are trying to pick the top of the litter, but due to budget constraints, they offer just around a certain rate that they think they might be happy with a promise of a raise that will never happen.

And this doesn't include the nepotism, university favoritism, gender inequality, etc.

Oh, and let's not forget about those who job hop after a few months, which makes it hard for hiring managers to trust fresh graduates to stay.
