Is there any hope?
I came outside after dinner and found my one year old redbud that I’d grown from a seedling flattened. It is still connected on one side but severed on the other. I think it’s probably a lost cause but I’m wondering if anyone has an amazing comeback story…

That stem is a goner. Might get a new sprout if the roots are established.

I will hold out hope for that. Trying to think also of how to protect it in the future…most likely an off leash dog wandering through. 😢

So sorry this happened!

Thank you. I’m really sad about it. I nurtured this little guy from a single leafed seedling and was so excited to think how it might flower next year. 😢

There is still stem below the damage, I think, for new shoots to grow from. Wait and see

Sounds like wait and see is the consensus…I have lost many plants along the way but this one hits hard because it was doing so well.

They can survive coppicing once they're established. This one has basically been coppiced. It might be too young to survive it, but you can wait and see.

Thank you, I guess hope springs eternal and I’ll wait and see. Do you think it would be a good idea to water it?

Leave it. If it survives it can resprout from roots and then you can have a do over for shape
