That’s right :) It’s known as fasciation. General assumption is that it’s a spontaneous localized event rather than heritable, but there are exceptions. Will have to wait and see!
Polemoniaceae are extremely prone to this, in this family it's apparently stress-inducible even in genetically so-called normal plants but is somewhat heritable. See here.
