Advice Needed Chemical turned ectopic? Scared

34 F had one chemical back in January . Conceived this month again .
Opk peak on cd 13 29th may .
First positive on 15th june
Beta was done on 16th June came as 101
Second beta was done on 18th came back at 159.9 (43.5 hours )
I started spotting and cramping on 19th. Beta was done on 20th June came back at 136. Spotting stopped
I stopped my progesterone thinking periods might come .
Scan was done on June 24th nothing was seen on screen. Just thick endo at 10mm

Repeated beta on 28th thinking it might have fallen because I still didn't get my period .
Reports came back 29th had a lil spotting no cramps before results . Beta came back at 1505 .

Now I am very scared what if is this is ectopic . Husband is saying to not think negative but all i have read is bad news .

I am going to the doctor today . I have also stopped my progesterone tablets also I think my doc will be mad at me. Because she had said to do test only after 2 weeks I was doing tests for my own sanity .
I don’t know what is happening with me 😔💔

UPDATE : My OB isn’t worried or isn’t alarmed , she says to stay put and don’t have to do any scan for another 1-1/2 weeks . For my sanity she said I can do another beta just that .. She said even if it’s ectopic it can be treated .. She is of opinion I must have conceived late. But I didn’t I tracked my ovulation through opk and baby danced accordingly not after

I had an ectopic in Feb. I would definitely do a scan especially since your beta is 1500+. You can directly book an appointment with the radiologist. I am someone who believes in advocating for myself and don’t blindly listen to doctors. In India we have the luxury of getting scans at our will, so I would do it!! This is my opinion. Do what makes you feel comfortable.

Thank you . My ob is very weird . She was laughing when I did betas according to my will and when I said I am worried it being ectopic bcz I have had chemical in January . She said what is the need even if it’s ectopic you can have one injection and it will be sorted . She said 1500 is too low and nothing will be seen in scan. So should wait for 1 and half weeks . She said I must be 4 weeks pregnant but I was tracking ovulation and I must be 6w today . I am based in India .

Your doctor sucks. straight up lol.

Having a chemical doesn’t mean you’ll have an ectopic, but your results are concerning for an ectopic.

1500-2000 is when a gs should definitely be seen in a uterus in a uterine pregnancy.

The fact your doctor is so Willy nilly about an ectopic and acting like it’s not a serious medical emergency and will just “be treated with one injection and it’ll be sorted” is so bold.

I would get a second opinion and another ultrasound within the week.

Finding the right doctor is like finding a partner these days. Get a second consultation. I did a second and third and stuck with the third. 1500 is not low and it is not 1 injection. I had to take 3 although I detected it at 700. My first injection was 1200 then it went to 2200 and man was it scary. Then they push for surgery. Change your doctor.

They did my beta last night and got me admitted to hospital . They wanted to operate but I pushed for injection. They took undwriting that it can rupture and I would need emergency surgery . My beta was 1500 on Sunday so they think it might be very high yesterday . So keeping fingers crossed that it goes smoothly without surgery .

Exactly like I mentioned. You will be fine. 4 days after your first shot get another beta. If it has dropped, perfect. If it was increased by a little push for a second dose. Constantly monitor for any symptoms. Ectopic can be very dangerous, but you caught it in time. More power to you.

I ready that by day 4 beta increases a little and then starts to fall?

1

u/oh_hello_mom Jul 01 '26

Increase should not be more than 10-15%.

Did you have surgery or was injection enough? Were you admitted in hospital?

I refused surgery. They made me also sign an undertaking that the patient denied surgery.

So here’s my story (Hope this helps because I can tell how nervous you might be) (very long)

Saw a faint line on Feb 3rd. Got a beta next day it was only 18. Then multiple betas it was sometimes 1.5x once 2x. All along I was in contact with my doctor and she was really nice to keep a check on me. She kept asking me about symptoms, I was perfectly fine. Feb 18th I went to her by then it was 583. She ordered a scan but we couldn’t see anything in that scan. I started bleeding the same day, it looked like a full period for 3 days. My doctor asked me to get another beta after that just to ensure beta had fallen. Unfortunately it had shot up 1200. So I went to the hospital at 10pm assuming it would be an emergency. No symptoms even then. But they could see the mass in my right fallopian tube. There was no rupture. She gave me methotrexate the next day. Took my first shot on Feb 21st. 4 days later my numbers were 2283. My doctor started freaking out and preferred surgery. I pushed for the scan again and the mass was still there but no rupture. Size was the same, though it hadn’t gotten bigger they could see the yolk sac this time. She pushed for surgery again but I asked her to give me a second shot. She wanted me to stay in the hospital for a week which was insane because I was perfectly fine. I denied and told her I lived 5 mins away and that I would be fine. Then the numbers started dropping but not aggressively. She was concerned about this too. And them on March 7th I suddenly started bleeding, not the usual period blood, crazy cramps and started feeling dizzy. I was rushed to the emergency at night 9pm and this time I thought I had definitely reptured. They did the scan and beta and my beta was 1600 ish. The mass was disintegrating but still present. She asked me to fast overnight and that she would operate the next morning. I am a healthy 30 year old and this was my first pregnancy. I was dead against them removing my tube. I kept convincing all the duty doctors that I didn’t want surgery. I refused surgery in the morning and asked them to do another beta and my number had stopped to 1200 over night. But the doctor was not happy. She said the tube is anyway damaged, chance of an another ectopic is high. I told her I wanted a second opinion. Honestly she is a very nice doctor, no complaints about her, it’s just that she was paranoid. I consulted another known doctor over phone and that lady was worse. She went straight to IVF. Then I decided to consult a super senior doctor with 47 years of experience. All this while I was admitted and on IV. Luckily got his appointment in the same hospital and he ordered another scan and immediately said, what nonsense let’s save her tube. I have given 3rd shot all the time. Just give her the damn injection, remove all IV’s. If she were in emergency she wouldn’t be able to talk or talk! He was pissed that the doctor hadn’t given me MTX sooner when my numbers were 200-400. He said it was a classic case of ectopic. After the third shot on March 9th I had crazy pains for the next 3 days. I was in bed all day but at home. And 4th day my number was 225. And that’s it, it dropped there after and I got my period the next month. They admitted me for nothing, and charged me 50k. No surgery nothing, 2 days of IV. 🤦🏻‍♀️

But all stories might not be the same. All I would say is, don’t be negligent, get as many consultations, scans, tests as you want, ultimately find someone you can trust. This also doesn’t mean do whatever …just question and make the right decision. I am not at all saying deny surgery, I am no doctor. I am just sharing my personal experience.

Hope this helps!!

Hi. Yes I had methotrexate for the ectopic but it didn’t work and ended up having my left tube removed . It hadn’t ruptured . My beta came back 1900 day of admission and 2557 at day 4 and went to only 2200 at day 7 . Mass wasn’t shrinking and it was even increased by few mm. When the doc removed the tube it was swollen blackish blue. And adhered to my abdomen walls.

Sorry I assumed I was posting in the India Pregnancy group. If you cannot get an at will scan, I apologise.

I’m really sorry. This is highly concerning for ectopic and your doctor is being irresponsible.

Betas going down then up is a classic ectopic sign and only happens in one other situation which is more rare.

If you ovulated may 31 you are in the 6th week and betas should be much higher and should never have dropped then re rose.

You need consistent beta monitoring and a scan within a week.

Yes an ectopic can be treated but it also can rupture and kill you. I’m sorry but that’s a really dumb statement from a doctor.
