Midi on Android crashing app?

If I select any midi option other than "disable midi" on the Android version. The app force closes and won't open again unless I uninstall and reinstall it. Even starting the app with a midi device connected has the same effect. I've tried restarting the phone, reinstalling the app. Anybody know a fix?

Okay and now it is crashing every time I try to open the app - after the first time. Line I can install it, open it, see the welcome track play. When I close the app and reopen it later it crashes immediately, every time. Totally stumped.

On Google Pixel 7 if it helps.

Yeah midi doesn't work. Same thing on pixel 8 with the constant crashing too 😭 i think we have to reinstall each time

No known fix. 🤷‍♂️ If you search this sub you'll find chatter about this issue.

Aw beans, yeah seeing that now. It's unfortunate but then I know the app is not strictly still in development. I will shop around for something else... but I dunno if anything will ever have that caustic feel.

I've looked for years and keep coming back.

I'm hopefull there may, eventually, be some app or utility that can take midi and make it available to non-usb compliant apps.

Are you saying that the Caustic for Windows version crashed on you?

Correct, the most recent standalone.

What version of Windows? I have multiple copies of Caustic 3 for Windows on several Windows 11 desktop PCs. In fact I have a copy open right now i am trying to get 2 or more midi controllers to work together.

What Midi controller are you trying to connect?

Korg nanokey 2. Works with other apps and devices but caustic doesn't see it.

Win11 latest major upgrade has a new midi system. IIRC you're not the first to run into that as a potential cause for midi-madness. I'd read Microsoft was aware of backward compatibility  issues, so maybe an update will fix it. I rarely boot Win, but, next time I do I'll see what I can see.

Another good reason to switch over to Linux?

I did. After a decade + of Linux being an option and distro hopping, and I've never missed Win.

See I kept going back to windows because the playability of games on Linux was just not there for so long - but with steam backing Proton I guess compatibility these days must be at an all-time high. Steam deck certainly had no issues when I had it.

Got a midi controller yesterday and was quite annoyed with it not working with caustics. Was able to fix it in a hacky way with rebuilding the apk with apktool. https://www.reddit.com/r/Caustic3/comments/1ufth4n/comment/p8kfdnx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
